Mngqithi assumed the head coach position after the sudden departure of Rulani Mokwena, who has moved to Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

The changes also saw the return of coach Steve Komphela to assist Mngqithi and the surprising appointment of Romain Folz as second assistant coach.

In an interview with Robert Marawa, a Hollywoodbets Brand Ambassador, on 947, the 53-year-old Mngqithi seemingly took a dig at Mokwena by expressing his preference for collaborating with humble people within his technical staff.

“I like to work with people that are humble first,” Mngqithi said on 947.

“I like to work with people that are not fighting for the screen (TV), fighting for to be seen, fighting for people to know how much they know.

“I like to work with people that just have a lot of influence in making sure that what they are doing is right.

“Wendell Robinson has done an exceptional job at Sundowns, he never talks, he never comes to the media.

“Romain Folz very soon people will be singing his praises, coach Steve Komphela everyone knows what he is capable of.

“So, I want to work with people that will make a difference. It’s a very big slice of cake that we are dealing with at Sundowns.

“And it’s very difficult that I can eat it alone it’s too much.”

Masandawana will kick start their 2024/25 season on Sunday 11 August, in an MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Polokwane City.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
