Nabi was officially announced as the new mentor for Chiefs after meeting with the team in their pre-season camp in Turkey on Sunday.

The Tunisian-born tactician has a massive task to reawaken the sleeping Soweto giants and help the club reclaim its glory days after an unprecedented nine barren seasons.

Interestingly, Nabi’s tenure at the Glamour Boys will kick off with a pre-season match against Yanga in the Toyota Cup at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, July 28.

Yanga’s president Said is one of the people who have experienced Nabi’s magic first-hand, and he is quite aware of the coach’s capabilities.

When Said appointed Nabi in 2021 as Yanga coach, the Wananchi had gone for four years without silverware.

But when the 58-year-old coach left at the end of the 2022/23 season, the club had won six trophies including back-to-back Tanzanian Premier League titles.

Said reckons Nabi can also do the same with Chiefs, but he warns it might not be easy as the Premier Soccer League is on “another level.”

“For us as Young Africans, we take this opportunity to meet our coach again on the 28th (of July) but personally, let me take this opportunity to wish him all the best,” Said explained during the launch of the Toyota Cup.

“I know coach Nabi coming down here there’s a lot of requirements, there’s a lot of expectations for him as well and the technical staff. But there are a lot of expectations from the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, so we wish him all the best.

“He is a very good coach and has done marvellously with us. We won the league two times with him. We won the FA Cup two times with him, and we went all the way to the CAF Confederation Cup final with him, so the sky is the limit for him,” Said added.

“With the best management and the players that Chiefs have, I’m sure he is going to do wonders here.

“So, let’s me take this opportunity to wish him all the best. I know it’s going to be tough because South Africa is on another level in terms of football.”

Nabi is currently in Turkey with Chiefs as they prepare for the new season.
