Although having secured three new signings – Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates, Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs, and goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy—the club is actively seeking to bolster their squad further.

The Soweto giants have released several players, including Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Keagan Dolly, and Siyethemba Sithebe, as they aim to refresh their lineup.

Speaking at the launch of the new kit on Thursday, Motaung highlighted the need for additional experienced players to complement the relatively young squad, emphasising the club’s ongoing efforts to enhance their competitive edge for the upcoming season.

“We’re definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce,” Motaung Junior said.

“We have a young squad at the moment in time. I think it’s a squad that needs a bit of experience, and a bit of quality. So, we are very mindful of the demands placed on what’s coming next season.

“So, to answer the question, we’re working behind the scenes, day and night to make sure that we reinforce, we need to reinforce, we’ve gotten a bit of a clear roadmap of the kind of player we need in what positions.”

The former Chiefs player has expressed concerns over the delay in the PSL fixtures. He stated that the postponement would disrupt the team’s plans which were meticulously prepared during the pre-season.

“So, on that point, we’re definitely working on it. I think the fixture being delayed is never ideal because you go on a pre-season and you plan your periodisation from a sports science perspective and it loads it down on a certain perspective in a certain way, knowing the games are starting to play.

“I think we’ve got a great sports science team and I think from a conditioning perspective technically I think it’s always good to have more time to prepare.

“But it’s very important the kind of opposition we get now in our friendly games to be able to keep the right intensity mentally, physically and technically and tactically for the guys to understand what the coach wants.

“So, I think two-edged sword, more time to prepare. But yeah, I think we’re still very clear on what needs to be achieved in the short term.”

Amakhosi will continue with their pre-season preparations on Sunday when they face Young Africans of Tanzania in a Toyota Cup at Free State.

Kick-off is 15:00.
