Themba Zwane's message to his teammates is clear: Mamelodi Sundowns need to win their DStv Premiership encounter with Cape Town City if this generation of Masandawana players are to be mentioned among the greatest Downs teams ever assembled.
Sundowns will be presented with the DStv Premiership trophy on Saturday afternoon at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where skipper Zwane will receive the crown on behalf of the club.
This will be Zwane’s ninth Premiership gold medal and the club’s seventh straight on the spin, marking a total of 17 titles across all eras.
Sundowns, however, want to do it in style this time as a win against Eric Tinkler’s outfit.
“It is still an important game for us that we need to win because if we want to close it properly. If we win we will make history of not losing in the league. We have to go all out,” said Zwane.
“We know that every team comes to play us. It is important for them and it is going to be a difficult game because Cape Town City are a good team with a good coach, they play good football and it is going to be an exciting game to watch,” ‘Mshishi’ added.
Meanwhile, Zwane’s mentor, Rulani Mokwena has been nominated for the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season, and ‘Mshishi’ has sung the praises of Mokwena, who will be going up against Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker and Orlando Pirates’ Jose Riveiro.
“He is an amazing coach and an amazing human being. What I appreciate more about the coach is that as a player you improve a lot when you work under him.
“We always learn because he always goes to watch the games so that he can improve us as players. He works hard and he motivates us. We enjoy playing under him and we are happy with the coach,” Zwane concluded.
