The reigning champions showcased their prowess, with goals from Tashreeq Matthews, Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro, and Sphelele Mkhulise leaving Gallants struggling to keep pace.

Gallants began the match with some promise, moving the ball around effectively in the opening minutes. Siyabulela Shai even forced the first shot on goal for the visitors. However, it was Sundowns who struck first just two minutes later. After a quick build-up from goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Matthews found the net with a left-footed shot after a well-placed pass into the box.

Sundowns nearly doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Aubrey Modiba set up Marcelo Allende, whose effort sailed over the crossbar. But it didn’t take long for them to extend their advantage. Just after the half-hour mark, Rayners joined Matthews on the scoresheet. As Gallants pressed forward, Sundowns countered brilliantly, with Ribeiro, Matthews, and Rayners combining for a seamless second goal.

The home side maintained their momentum after the break, scoring again in the 47th minute. Following slick teamwork, Matthews played a precise pass to Ribeiro, who coolly finished one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

With 20 minutes remaining, Mkhulise compounded Gallants’ woes, capitalizing on a defensive error by Nicholas Mlambo. Dispossessed near the goal, Mlambo allowed Mkhulise to slot home an easy finish.

Gallants earned a glimmer of hope in the 84th minute when Monde Mphambaniso was brought down in the box, leading to a penalty. However, Gabadinho Mhango’s effort was saved by Williams, denying the visitors a goal.

Despite a late consolation from Mhango in the 88th minute, Sundowns controlled the game throughout, sealing a convincing 4-1 win on home turf.
