The 25-year-old Argentine midfielder, who joined Sundowns for a hefty fee of R47 million in January, has now returned to Talleres on a one-year loan deal.

Esquivel’s move from Sundowns came as a shock to many. The midfielder had been an integral part of Sundowns’ pre-season plans, even playing a significant role during their training camp in Austria.

However, just as quickly as he arrived, he found himself heading back to Argentina, where he was unveiled as a Talleres player.

In an interview with Argentine media, Esquivel explained that the primary reason for his sudden exit was the difficulty his family faced adjusting to life in South Africa.

“It was tough in South Africa, not just for me but for my family as well. We were far from home, and although we adapted gradually, it became clear that a change was needed for the sake of my family’s happiness,” Esquivel said.

He continued, “I discussed the situation with my wife, and we agreed it was best to explore the possibility of returning home. I spoke with Sundowns, and they graciously allowed me to make this move.

“I’m grateful to the club management for facilitating this transition, and now I’m eager to contribute to Talleres.”

On the field, Esquivel’s stint at Sundowns saw him make 13 appearances, scoring twice and providing one assist. Despite his efforts, he noted that the pace of the Premiership was noticeably different from what he was accustomed to in Argentina.

“The rhythm in South Africa was different, but I trained diligently. In football, circumstances can change rapidly, and you have to adapt quickly,” he reflected.

As Esquivel returns to Talleres, fans will be keen to see how he adapts and performs in familiar surroundings.
