The Buccaneers, seeking redemption after back-to-back defeats against SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations break, are poised for a comeback at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday night.

Notable inclusions in the squad are Azola Matrose and goalkeeper Sipho Chaine. Matrose, who battled injury since his return from a loan stint with Chippa United, is now fully fit and set for his debut. Goalkeeper Chaine, whose progress was hindered by injury, has rejoined full training, adding depth to the team.

Confirming Matrose’s readiness, Pirates stated on their official website, “Azola Matrose, who struggled with an injury since returning from a loan spell with Chippa United at the end of last season, is fully fit and ready for his debut.” The announcement also highlighted Chaine’s return, emphasizing the team’s bolstered strength.

Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi shed light on the technical team’s focus during the break, emphasizing recovery for injured players and the integration of new talents.

Ncikazi, speaking through Pirates’ media department, expressed optimism about the upcoming clash: “It’s going to be a very good match between two good teams. This period has given us an opportunity to try and improve our performances to try and get more points, and Sundowns is the first game after the break.”

With the DStv Premiership clash scheduled to kick off at 20h00 on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, football enthusiasts can expect a thrilling encounter between two formidable teams.
