The abrupt change in leadership was announced following Sekhukhune United’s disappointing exit from the Carling Knockout Cup tournament, where they fell to TS Galaxy in a penalty shootout, ultimately leading to the departure of their former coach, Brandon Truter.

As negotiations for Truter’s official departure from the club continue, it is Makhubedu who will now step into the spotlight as the acting head coach. This significant shift in management follows the recent sacking of assistant coach Morgan Gould and the termination of goalkeeper Johan Abselon’s contract. In Abselon’s absence, Innocent Mayoyo, who previously featured in the DStv Diski Challenge squad, has been called up to fill the void.

The situation regarding Morgan Gould appears to be fluid, as reports suggest he might still have a role to play within the club in a different capacity in the near future. It is clear that Sekhukhune United are undergoing a period of transformation within their coaching staff.

The decision to replace key coaching personnel stems from a string of lacklustre performances that have left club hierarchy bewildered. Despite significant investments in new playing talent, the commitment of certain players has come into question.

Truter confirmed his departure to Diski Times, and with the technical staff undergoing such rapid changes, the club are now contemplating the possibility of a squad shake-up in January should results and performances fail to improve in the coming weeks.

Sekhukhune will need to quickly adapt to their new coaching structure as they prepare to take on Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash in Soweto on Tuesday evening at 19:30.

The match promises to be a significant test for the team under their interim head coach, MacDonald Makhubedu, as they aim to put recent setbacks behind them and regain their winning form.
