Stellies secured their place in the final with a 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final second leg, winning 2-0 on aggregate.

Lehlohonolo Mojela’s decisive goal ensured Stellenbosch’s progression and continued their remarkable cup run.

Reflecting on the achievement, Barker emphasized the significance of reaching another cup final, following their Carling Knockout triumph in December.

“This is huge, to make a second semi-final in the space of six, seven months is really incredible,” Barker commented.

“The top eight is one of the hardest competitions to get to a final. To be able to get past a team like Mamelodi Sundowns over two legs is just incredible for us as a team.”

Barker also expressed his gratitude to the supporters, acknowledging the disappointment of not having them present in large numbers.

“Really happy for our supporters, a pity they couldn’t be here in numbers to support us, but this is for them back home.

“Hopefully, the final will be accessible, and we can go with our fans.”

The match was tightly contested, with Sundowns hitting the post twice in the closing stages, but Barker remained confident in his team’s performance.

“I know in the end they hit the post twice, but in the first 20, 25 minutes we also could have had a goal or two. It ended up being a tight game in the end, but credit must go to the team.”

Addressing the recent departure of Iqraam Rayners, Barker highlighted the club’s preparedness and successful signings.

“We felt a player like Rayners was always going to be problematic to keep after such a great season. So, we do our homework,” Barker explained.

“Mojela is doing well, Sanele [Barns] is doing really well, Ashley [Cupido] just arrived, and I know he will do well. We’ll still look to strengthen in one or two other departments before the window closes.”
