Mokoena, who began his journey at Harmony Sports Academy in Bloemfontein and joined SuperSport United in 2014, quickly rose through the ranks after two impressive seasons, earning a senior team contract under former coach Stuart Baxter.

Since joining Sundowns in 2022, Tebza, as Mokwena is affectionately known, has continued to evolve his game, becoming a regular for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

His standout performances, especially during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where South Africa secured a bronze medal, gained him interest from European clubs, big-spenders of Saudi Arabia and Africa’s renowned side Al Ahly.

Although these moves did not materialise, Mokoena remains determined that his dream of playing abroad will still come true.

“The dream is still alive (to play overseas) we still have (FIFA) Club World Cup, so, yeah we will see next year again,” Mokoena explained.

“For me, I’m happy to be at the club (Sundowns). The reason I signed the contract is because I know the project of the club and I wanted to be part of the project.

“So, it was an easy decision for me to stay here because we still have Club World Cup, we still have Caf (Champions League). We still have AFL (African Football League), and I still have Bafana Bafana on the side.”
