Coupled with their league honours are six Nebank Cups, four Telkom Knockout trophies, four MTN8 title, a CAF Super Cup, African Football League – but just two CAF Champions League wins.
Sundowns won the elite continental competition for the first time in 2001 and added a second star in 2016, while they made it as far as the semi-final last time out.
The Champions League has been elusive for Downs over the past eight years, and remains the main focus for the club, as they prepare to get another season underway.
Last term, they also fell short in the Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup.
With a new technical team installed, Onyango explained that Sundowns want more than two tropies in 2024/25.
He said on Goal: “Of course, the expectations are always high. I know of seven trophies, including the Club World Cup. But we need to have targets and that’s what we are building towards, trying to have the right mentality and win as much as we can, more than what we won last season.
“Last campaign, we won only two trophies, so the target is to win more than two this season. We are working towards that.”
Sundowns kick off their season with an MTN8 fixture with Polokwane City on August 11.
