Maluleka, who made the move in the January transfer window of the 2019/20 season, revealed that the decision to leave Kaizer Chiefs was not his own and that he had hoped to stay with the club until the end of the season.

At the time of his departure, Chiefs were leading the PSL league standings, and his move to Sundowns was met with disappointment by many Chiefs supporters.

The transfer was particularly controversial because the Soweto giants ended up losing the league title on the last day of the season to Sundowns, which some fans attributed to Maluleka’s departure. There were suspicions among the Chiefs faithful that the Brazilians, orchestrated the transfer to destabilize their team.

The 35-year-old expressed his disappointment during an interview on Marawa Sports Worldwide, stating that he had wanted to remain with Amakhosi and contribute to their title challenge.

However, an agreement with the club’s management could not be reached, leading to his move to Chloorkop.

“It was unfortunate, and it happened. I don’t want to say it was supposed to happen that way,” Maluleka said on 947.

“But that year (2020) we were supposed to win the league as Kaizer Chiefs since I was there.

“But I left, and it didn’t happen, and a lot of people say it was because of me which is fine, I also understand.

“And I also tried and explain to them but there were a lot of players, there were a lot of us, it’s a team sport, and it’s team based.

“I did contribute my part, my bit for that season, and my agent couldn’t I don’t want to say finish the deal. But we couldn’t agree to terms (with Kaizer Chiefs) unfortunately.”

Maluleka is currently in search of a new club after parting ways with AmaZulu following his two-season stint with Usuthu.
