The two historic clubs are set to battle each other in a Betway Premiership match at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday at 19:30.

Here we give everything you need to know about the fixture.

Chiefs aim to maintain winning start, Usuthu search for first win of the season

While Amakhosi got their campaign off to a winning start, the same cannot be said about AmaZulu.

The Durban-based club kicked things with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Polokwane City away from home.

AmaZulu opened the scoring through new signing Etiosa Ighodaro in the first half, however, a lapse of concentration at crucial times and a blunder by goalkeeper and skipper Veli Mothwa helped Rise and Shine to claim maximum points.

They will be motivated to get off the mark against one of the big boys in the league, who are still trying to find their feet under the new technical team.

On the other hand, Chiefs will be cautious against dropping points as they need to keep up with their rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates and Downs have claimed back-to-back victories to be in the top two of the log table.

How to watch

The match will be carried live by pay-TV giants SuperSport, on their PSL channel 202 and the streaming platform, Showmax.

The broadcast will include a build-up with analysis from football experts which starts at 18:30. There will also be a broadcast on different SABC radio stations.

Betting odds

Here at Hollywoodbets, we have placed Chiefs as clear favourites to claim maximum points against Usuthu.

However, AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco has spoken about how much he knows Chiefs’ new boss Nasreddine Nabi from “a long time ago.” He will be looking to use that knowledge to stun Amakhosi.

Mose Mabhida Stadium

The Durban-based stadium is one of the venues that were built to host the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

World football powerhouses such as Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain and Nigeria are some of the teams that used the venue during the showpiece.

After the World Cup, the stadium was mainly used for football, but it also hosted a single T20I cricket match between Proteas and India on 9 January 2011.

The 55,000-seater has also hosted at least two rugby matches as South Africa ‘A’ hosted French Barbarians while the Hollywoodbets Sharks won the Durban Challenge against Bordeaux Bègles in August 2018.

Last meeting

The last meeting between the two sides ended in a one-all draw when Usuthu hosted Amakhosi at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on 12 May 2024.
