AmaTuks are pushing for a return to the big time via the Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotion/relegation playoffs after being relegated in 2016.

They are battling against Richards Bay FC, who are determined to remain in the topflight, and Baroka FC, who are also chasing a comeback.

The mentor, who has been with the Pretoria-based side for a few years, had to field questions about their playing style.

AmaTuks play direct football, and some have felt it might not be good enough to help them succeed in the playoffs where they face Baroka on Wednesday.

“We don’t change it,” said Motaung during a press conference recently.

“That’s what brought us here, (and) since I took over, we have been playing like this and we have never finished outside the top eight, so I don’t see the reason why we should be worrying ourselves with something different.

“And also, that is informed by the type of players I have. When you have a striker like (Thabang) Sibanyoni, why would you waste his ability on aerial duels? When you have Kamohelo Pheeane.

“For me, it’s a system that suits us. We apply ourselves well.”

After two matches played by all the teams, the Natal Rich Boyz are at the summit of the mini-league with four points.

Motaung’s men are second with three points while Baroka find themselves at the foot of the table with a single point.

“It’s open for everyone, and at this stage, we are still optimistic that we are challenging for it,” said Motaung.

Baroka hope to register a win in the playoffs against AmaTuks at Global Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday at 15:00.
