Kaizer Chiefs coach, Arthur Zwane, has pointed the finger at his defense for their bruising loss against Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership match on Tuesday evening.

Amakhosi failed to assert their game plan, especially in the first half, at the Cape Town Stadium in what ended as a 2-0 win for the home side. This was the Cape outfit’s first victory this season in six attempts.

Speaking after the game, ‘10111’ criticized his defence for failing to deal with the early pressure they were under and suggested they failed to follow the game plan.

“We obviously started very slow, very sloppy at the back… we actually planned for this (game), you know? The only thing we didn’t do right was to execute the plan. We knew that they’ll want to drop the ball behind, and that’s why we started with three centre-backs so that we could close spaces and the wing-backs could confront their full-backs when they came, but we sat at the back on a straight line, and we allowed them I think about four of those balls that lead to the goal, before, we sort of had a warning. The guys couldn’t read it.

“We conceded too early in the game. Once you concede early, you’re unsettled and chasing the game. They dictated terms. We just didn’t get it right in the first half. In the second half, we came back a different team. We were just unfortunate not to score one that maybe could have brought us back into the game. We couldn’t take the few chances we created, and we conceded from a dead-ball situation again, which we’re trying to avoid,” said Zwane speaking to SuperSport TV after the game.

The Glamour Boys have now lost three games in five under Zwane this season, and pressure is mounting on the manager, with games coming thick and fast due to the FIFA World Cup break later in the year.

Chiefs will face another Western Cape side this weekend, Stellenbosch FC, in an MTN 8 quarter-final.
