Zakhele Lepasa continued his rich vein of form in front of goal to help Orlando Pirates beat Cape Town City 2-0 in their PSL clash at the Orlando Stadium.

Lepasa netted his ninth goal of the season in just six games in all competitions before Patrick Maswanganyi put the match beyond doubt as the Buccaneers romped to their second win in four league encounters.

Pirates forward Lepasa came into the contest in hot form following a brace in the Caf Champions League at the weekend and took little time to make his mark against the Citizens with a stunning strike.

It was in the ninth minute when the striker received a cross from left and, with his back to goal, expertly controlled, turned and volleyed to beat Darren Keet in the visitors’ goal.

Both teams then created very little going forward for the rest of the half as the scoreline remained in favour of Pirates until the interval.

Visiting coach Eric Tinkler made a double sub on the hour mark with Khanyisa Mayo and Jaedin Rhodes brought on to give more impetus in the attacking third.

The move nearly paid dividends as Mayo created an opportunity for Taahir Goedeman but the midfielder’s effort went just wide.

Just as the Citizens were getting a foothold in the game, the Soweto giants grabbed their second goal with defender Taariq Fielies making a costly mistake.

Fielies’ stray pass went straight to Dean Hotto and the winger drove to the byline and squared the ball to Maswanganyi who was waiting at the far-post to apply the finish.

Keet appeared to have save the effort from going into the net but the assistant referee flagged for a goal with the City players furious at the decision.

With the goal standing, the stuffing was taken out of the visitors and the Buccaneers wrapped up the three points from the encounter.

It was a fourth consecutive loss for Cape Town City in all competitions since starting the campaign with two victories in the league.
