Mamelodi Sundowns 6-0 Golden Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns’ star striker Peter Shalulile is four goals shy of reaching Collins Mbesuma’s PSL record of goals scored in a single season. On Tuesday Shalulile scored a hat-trick as he continued his brilliant form in front of goal to reach 21 goals this season. This was his second hat-trick in as many games. The first one came against Swallows FC last week in a 4-2 win.

Shalulile, a Namibia international, last season became the first striker since Siyabonga Nomvethe to reach 20 goals in a single season. Nomvethe managed that total donning the colours of Moroka Swallows during the 2011/12 season.

Now, Shalulile has surpassed that total and is hunting down Mbesuma’s record of 25 goals scored during the 2004/05 season for Kaizer Chiefs.

Other players who surpassed 20 goals in a single season include inaugural PSL-era Golden Boot winner Wilfred Mugeyi who scored 22 goals for Umtata Bush Bucks.

Pollen Ndlanya had 21 goals for Amakhosi during the 1998/99 season.

During Masandawana’s emphatic victory against Arrows, other scorers were Gaston Sirino, Pavol Safranko, and Romeo who both came on in the second half to make their mark.

Downs will now turn their attention to the CAF Champions League where they are playing the first leg of the quarterfinals away to Petro de Luanda of Angola on Saturday, 16 April.
