Desh Parthab takes a look at five stats to keep in mind before taking your DStv Premiership bets this weekend. Here we look at Maduna's contribution to AmaZulu, Maseamedi hitting form toward the end of the season and more!
It was a busy week on the local football scene. Maritzburg United took all three points in their tie against Royal AM, with the Team of Choice slowly earning a reputation for being the giant slayers – after dispatching Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in KZN just a few weeks back.
Lloyd Kazapua has been sensational in the Chippa nets, as seen by his three clean sheets across his previous three league outings, with the most recent of which coming against Cape Town City. The Chilli Boys come up against Baroka and with just six points separating the two clubs, it’s all to play for.
Just who can predict what the DStv Premiership log will look like come the end of the season? We have a near full fixture list this weekend to savour up and here are a few players who could inch their team further up the table.
Melusi Buthelezi key to TS Galaxy’s survival bid
TS Galaxy have lost eight of their 14 away league outings, only Baroka (11) have lost more on their travels this season. Despite this, the Rockets have conceded just a single league goal on their travels since the turn of the year – the fewest from all top-flight clubs (level with Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City). The club has played 5 away league fixtures in 2022 and Melusi Buthelezi has been in fine form, keeping 4 clean sheets in that spell. A remarkable comeback from the ‘keeper who was stabbed in a hijacking incident earlier this year.

Moseamedi’s late-season form
Stellenbosch has experienced a string of consistent performers this season. Judas Moseamedi is one of them and the forward has delivered two goals and an assist across his previous three home league appearances for the club. The Cape side are yet to see home league defeat (P4 W1 D3) since the turn of the year, however, they will need to convert their draws into wins if they are to push for a top-four finish.

Saleng to sink SuperSport?
Monnapule Saleng has returned a goal and two assists across his previous four league appearances for Swallows. Dylan Kerr’s team hover just two points from the drop and will need the likes of Saleng to deliver if they are to secure their PSL status for next season. Saleng & co come up against a SuperSport team that have only been outscored by Royal AM and Mamelodi Sundowns this term.
The #DStvPrem goal of the month nominees for April 2022 are @JustinShonga, Ndumiso Mabena, @dolly_keagan07, Azola Matrose, @matlharif, @SammySeabi, Monnapule Saleng, @Khama_Billiat11, @TMashego14 and Suprise Ralani. #ThamiSoccer pic.twitter.com/4lTDI5pQ3Z

More Maduna magic on the cards?
AmaZulu have scored just three goals across Brandon Truter’s four matches in charge. Sphesihle Maduna has been involved in two of those, bagging a goal and registering an assist during that period. Usuthu came out on top in their fixture against Swallows last time out, which means that only Mamelodi Sundowns (12) have taken more points than Amazulu (10) since Brandon Truter’s appointment as interim manager.
"Sphesihle Maduna is a brilliant player, he has suprised me with the potential that he has and if he keeps his feet on the ground, the sky is the limit for him (excuse the pun)" - AmaZulu interim Coach Brandon Truter https://t.co/005FJ1tXes

Modiba’s shining bright for Masandawana
Aubrey Modiba has scored in back-to-back away fixtures for Mamelodi Sundowns. The wingback opened the scoring for the Brazilians in their Nedbank Cup semifinal fixture against Royal AM and followed that up with a first half strike against Sekhukhune United at Ellis Park. Modiba hasn’t quite enjoyed the playing time that has been afforded to his teammates, as seen by his 15 league appearances. Despite this, his impact is palpable when he is on the pitch.
