Desh Parthab takes a look at five players you should keep an eye on in the DStv Premiership this week including Pule Mmodi of Golden Arrows and Sundowns’ new South American import, Marcelo Allende.
The DStv Premiership resumes tonight following this past weekend’s MTN8 action. The previous round of league action saw Cape Town City, Golden Arrows and SuperSport pick up their first wins of the season.
Marumo Gallants went down 1-0 to Orlando Pirates, which means Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are still searching for their first league victory and are currently rooted to the foot of the table.
Matsatsantsa will have a chance to get revenge on Masandawana, after they were dumped out of the MTN8 by their Tshwane neighbours. Kaizer Chiefs are up against Amazulu this weekend with the two set to meet again in a month’s time in the MTN8 semi-finals.
With that being said, here are a few players to keep your eye out for during this round of fixtures!
Ngcobo’s tough start to live at Royal AM
Zakahle Ngcobo has not had the best start to life at Royal AM. The shot-stopper has made four appearances for the KZN outfit this season. Ngcobo has one league clean sheet to his name – which he earned in Thwihli Thwahla’s previous league fixture against Maritzburg United. The keeper was between the sticks in their MTN8 clash with Orlando Pirates, where his mistake allowed Pirates to get their second of the match.

Musonda aiming to build on last week’s brace
Mwape Musonda has opened his account for Swallows. The attacker bagged a brace last time out as his side beat Sekhukhune United 2-1 at the Dobsonville Stadium. Musonda attempted 4 out of his team’s 7 shots (with 3 of those being on target) and created 1 chance in that game. The Zambian attacker is halfway to his league tally for last season and comes up against a Marumo Gallants side who have failed to win any of their previous 14 league outings (D10 L4).

Allende announces himself to Mzansi
Marcelo Allende announced his arrival with a goal on his league debut for Mamelodi Sundowns. The Chilean came off the bench to score the Masandawana’s final goal in their 3-0 league victory against Stellenbosch. He followed that up by making another substitute appearance to break the deadlock in their MTN8 bout with SuperSport United. Allende will be itching for a starting place and may get just that when his side makes the trip to the Lucas Moripe Stadium to take on Matsatsantsa.

Letsoalo – slow off the mark for Sekhkhune
Victor Letsoalo has netted his first league goal in Sekhukhune colours. Last season, the forward’s 15 league goals for Royal AM was enough to secure second place on the DStv Premiership scoring charts last time out. The striker is off the mark in this campaign, after he opened the scoring in Babina Noko’s 2-1 loss against Swallows last time out. Letsoalo will be looking to add to his tally when he welcomes his former club to the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Mmodi off the mark for Golden Arrows
Pule Mmodi officially opened his account for the season as Golden Arrows beat AmaZulu last time out. The Arrows attacker created three chances and attempted two shots against AmaZulu. Mmodi bagged five league goals for Arrows last season across his 28 league appearances. Golden Arrows comes up against a Chippa side who have only kept one clean sheet across their previous three away league outings.
