DStv Premiership Stat Attack

The last round of DStv Premiership action lacked that final bite with no team finding the back of the net more than once.

TS Galaxy overcame a Sekhukhune side to snatch a vital three points. That was Sekhukhune’s fifth league defeat of 2022 – a league high (joint level with Baroka FC).

Brandon Truter got a win on his Usuthu managerial league debut, albeit, thanks to an own goal. There was nothing to separate Cape Town City and Royal AM who shared the spoils.

SuperSport handed Kaizer Chiefs their sixth league defeat, with four of those coming at home. Stuart Baxter has since been relieved of his duties, ending his second managerial stint in charge of the Glamour Boys.

With that being said, here are a few other players set to make the headlines on the other side of the weekend!

Masuluke aiming for another shutout

Oscarine Masuluke has kept two clean sheets across his previous three home league appearances for Baroka FC. Those shutouts came on either side of a Luvuyo Memela stoppage-time winner. Since the turn of the year, Baroka have conceded 15 goals across their eight league appearances – a league-leading total. Despite this, the Peter Mokaba Stadium has become something of a fortress, as Baroka have conceded just seven goals across their 13 home league appearances – only Amazulu (6) have conceded fewer at home.

Kerr needs Swallows to dig deeper

Swallows dropped more points last time out as they drew with Marumo Gallants. Dylan Kerr’s men have opened the scoring in back to back league outings now, but have failed to see the game through, conceding on both instances and having to settle for a point. Monnapule Saleng was involved in both of those goals, returning a goal and an assist. Swallows have just a single league victory in 2022 but will fancy their chances against Baroka who come into this fixture rooted to the table.

Mongae finding his feet at TS Galaxy

Orebotse Mongae has bagged two goals across his previous four league appearances for TS Galaxy. The Rockets have been struggling for goals in 2022, having found the back of the net just four times across their eight league appearances. Only Baroka (3) have scored fewer since the turn of the year. Mongae’s goals will be vital for his side in their bid to avoid the drop and he comes up against a Maritzburg United side who haven’t kept a clean sheet across their previous five away league fixtures.

Goalshy Gallants

Marumo Gallants have scored just 1 goal from open play across their previous 5 league outings. The club started 2022 off with a bang, finding the back of the net 3 times on back to back occasions. The goals have certainly dried up since then. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa come up against SuperSports’ Ronwen Williams who has shipped 26 league goals this season – the most from all top-flight goalkeepers.

Royal AM to consolidate Champions League place?

Mfundo Thikazi has bagged two goals across his previous four appearances (across all competitions) for Royal AM. The KZN outfit have proven that they are not to be trifled with this season. They have already pulled off a league double over Kaizer Chiefs, knocked Cape Town City out of the Nedbank Cup and haven’t seen league defeat since the turn of the year. John Maduka and his side are certainly punching above their weight.
