Amakhosi dominated possession from the onset but failed to create any clear-cut chances to trouble the Spurs goalkeeper in what was a cagey opening 30 minutes.

However, in the 37th minute Spurs were gifted a golden chance after an error from the Chiefs backline which striker Ashley Cupido capitalised on as the hosts took a surprise lead.

The goal seemed to Spur on the Cape Town-based side and they started to retain possession and ask questions of the Chiefs defence as they grew into the game.

Spurs had the last chance of the first half as winger Asanele Velebayi forced the goalkeeper into a save which deflected onto the crossbar.

In the 74th minute, the home side were rewarded for their brave approach when they dispossessed the Amakhosi midfield deep in their half, playing some good quick passes before taking a shot that was parried into Man of Match Michael Morton’s path to tap home unmarked.

Spurs then made a trio of changes in the 88th minute as they sought to close out the victory, which included 39-year-old veteran Nazeer Allie.

Spurs managed to seal out the victory and condemned Kaizer Chiefs to a 10th-placed finish, their worst in PSL history.
