Chippa United 2-1 TS Galaxy

Chippa United recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to move up to fourth place on the Betway Premiership standings.

Unbeaten in their last two encounters, the Chilli Boys started this tie on the front foot and were in the lead when Bienvenu Eva Nga opened the scoring after 34 minutes.

Despite being pegged back by a 40th-minute Dzenan Zajmovic equaliser, the hosts rallied for all three points.

Ayabuleka Magqwaka was ultimately the hero for Kwanele Kopo’s charges with a winner on 54 minutes.

The result left the Chilli Boys two points off the top of the table with seven points from four games.

The Rockets, meanwhile, ended the afternoon second from bottom and without a point from their opening three games of the campaign and having only scored one goal.

Polokwane City 1-1 Stellenbosch

Elsewhere, Stellenbosch’s indifferent league form continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Polokwane City in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday.

The Cape Winelands club opened the scoring through Lehlohonolo Mojela after 26 minutes at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium but had to settle for a share of the spoils as Thabang Matuludi netted his second goal of the season on the stroke of half-time.

Stellies have now just won one of their opening three league ties, losing one and drawing one to sit in eighth place, while Rise and Shine occupy fifth with seven points from four matches.

The day’s other game saw Orlando Pirates pick up their third win in as many matches with a 1-0 away victory over Richards Bay.

Kabelo Dlamini was the match-winner with his 82nd-minute strike to see the Buccaneers settle into second place on the league standings with nine points.

Pirates are now unbeaten in their last ten games in all competitions while the Natal Rich Boys sit in 10th. They have one win, one draw and two losses so far this season.
