Amakhosi had been tracking the 28-year-old Democratic Republic of the Congo player but decided against adding another foreign player to their quota at the expense of a player already at the club.

Ngoma joined Raja in 2019 from AS Vita Club and went on to claim three major titles.

Zwane told Ikwekwezi FM: “We did look at Ngoma, we followed his career, and we wanted him even before people started talking about him.

“The thing was that by the time he became available to us, we already had players in that position.

“Right now, we’ve got [Phathutshedzo] Nange as our number six who is very dynamic and has the ability to spot front-runners.

“We also have Cole Alexander, and Yusuf Maart, even [Siyethemba] Sithebe who can also play as a number six, as much as he is a number eight or 10.

“If you are looking for a defensive midfielder that can make you play, Zitha Kwinika can do that.

“So if you bring in Ngoma, he will need to play because he is a foreigner.

“What message would we send to Yusuf Maart who represents the national team? He must play at Kaizer Chiefs for him to be considered for the national team.

“If we put Yusuf Maart on the bench, what are we saying about our country’s future?

“And another thing, going forward we think the priority is a striker now going forward compared to Ngoma.

“I rate Yusuf Maart very, very highly, and again for the fact that he is a local boy. He must get more opportunity than a foreigner.”
