Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 9 Preview

Real Sociedad continue to be the early pacesetters and look more dangerous every week. The Whites and Blues will gain more confidence by the fact that big teams like Barcelona keep dropping points. Atletico Madrid are slowly gaining momentum and look to be the early challengers. If they win their two games in hand, Atleti will be clear at the top.

Friday 6 November

Elche 23/10

Draw 2/1

Celta Vigo 27/20

(22:00)

Elche’s four-match unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 3-1 to Real Betis last Saturday. This is a good opportunity for the hosts to return to winning ways as they welcome a Celta Vigo team that’s winless in the last six matches, conceding a total of 14 goals in those games. I don’t see Elche losing this game, so, back them on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 11/20.

Saturday 7 November

Huesca 11/10

Draw 2/1

Eibar 28/10

Huesca’s winless run was stretched to eight games after they were thrashed 4-1 by defending champions Real Madrid last Saturday. That was their third defeat of the season to add to the five draws they’ve registered. In terms of performance, the hosts are not as bad and it’s unbelievable that they are winless in the league.

Eibar have been less impressive than their opponents, but they have managed to scrape results and cause upsets, beating teams like Sevilla. This won’t be an easy match for either side, but I do fancy Huesca to finally get their first win of the season.

Barcelona 4/10

Draw 39/10

Real Betis 57/10

Barcelona were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Alaves away from home. The Catalans have collected eight points from their first six matches – this is their worst start in a La Liga campaign since 2002-03 season. Lionel Messi once again failed to deliver the goods for the Catalan giants and he is proving that he no longer wants to be at the club.

Real Betis have been on and off this season, but they will fancy their chances against a divided Barcelona side. Despite Barcelona’s problems, I still think they can win this matchup. Back the Catalans to win here at 4/10.

Sevilla 6/10

Draw 26/10

Osasuna 5/1

Sevilla have been on a bad slump and I had expected way more from them after winning the Europa League. They currently lie at an embarrassing 16th spot on the table with seven points from six games. The Sevillistas come into this game off the back of three consecutive league defeats against average teams like Eibar and Granada.

Osasuna don’t deserve to be priced up at 5/1 in this game as they have been the better side from the two clubs. The visitors are no pushovers and if Sevilla don’t up their game, they will be in for another upset. It’s hard to separate these two sides, so, I’ll back Both Teams to Score at 13/10.

Atletico Madrid 9/20

Draw 31/10

Cadiz 13/2

Atletico Madrid are my favourites to win La Liga this season and with Barcelona having internal problems and their president resigning, it seems like that will all fall into Diego Simeone’s hands. Real Madrid are the only real threat now and they are also struggling with consistency.

Atletico Madrid are unbeaten in the league so far and maintaining this winning streak is very important for the hosts if they are to challenge for the title. Having won the league in 2014, Simeone will know how important it is to win these matches. Back Atletico Madrid to win here.

Sunday 8 November

Getafe 29/20

Draw 2/1

Villarreal 43/20

Sunday’s early kick-off sees eighth-placed Getafe play hosts to sixth-placed Villarreal in what looks to be a high-scoring encounter as both teams have started the season well. Getafe have won three from four at home and only conceded one goal in the process.

Villarreal seem to be struggling on the road after collecting just two points from the three matches played away. Both teams haven’t been conceding much goals, but because they both play attacking football, I think we are in for an open game. Back Both Teams to score at 21/20.

Real Sociedad 15/20

Draw 26/10

Granada 36/10

Real Sociedad is leading the La Liga table as it stands with 17 points from their eight appearances. Having lost only one of their league clashes so far this term, they pose an enormous threat to the visitors in the game.

Sociedad are enjoying a four-match winning streak coming into this game and their confidence keeps growing every game. Granada, though, will give the log leaders a run for their money. The visitors are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions and they’ll be a true test come Sunday. A tight encounter awaits us, but I’ll be brave and back the hosts to Win and Both Teams to Score at 26/10.

Real Valladolid 43/20

Draw 37/20

Athletic Bilbao 31/20

Athletic Bilbao caused a big upset last week, beating Europa League champions Sevilla and this is a perfect opportunity for them to claim back-to-back wins for the first team this season when taking on the worst team in the league. As things stand, there is no hope for Real Valladolid and if they continue like this, they will be relegated very early. The hosts are winless in seven matches, losing four and drawing three. This should be a comfortable win for Bilbao.

Levante 5/4

Draw 23/10

Alaves 22/10

Both teams have been struggling and fighting relegation in the last two seasons and again in this campaign, they find themselves in familiar territory. Both these sides haven’t been convincing in how they play and I’m expecting a dull affair here. This match is written goalless draw all over it as I cannot see who can score, let alone win. Back Under 2.5 Goals here at 7/10.

Valencia 47/10

Draw 34/10

Real Madrid 11/20

We roll down the curtains with an interesting match which sees Valencia play host to Real Madrid in what looks to be an interesting encounter. Madrid visit Valencia for Sunday’s La Liga clash hoping to stretch their unbeaten run across all competitions to four games. The hosts haven’t found their feet this season and are winless in their last four matches. Valencia have also been conceding a lot of goals, including two in each of the last four matches. Back Real Madrid to win here.
