Spanish La Liga: Week 36 Preview

 La-Liga-Gameweek-36-Preview

Round 36 of the La Liga kicks off on Friday evening.

The title race in La Liga is set to go down to the wire! Barcelona and Real Madrid are showing no signs of slowing down as they both look to get their hands of the trophy. Barca lead the standings on goal difference, but Madrid have the upper hand with Los Blancos having a game in hand over the Catalans.

Atletico Madrid and Sevilla look set for third and fourth spot respectively. Both Osasuna and Granada are confirmed to go down to the Segunda division. That leaves Sporting Gijon, Leganes and Deportivo all fighting for survival.

Friday 5 May

Sevilla 7/10 | Draw 29/10 | Real Sociedad 33/10
Sevilla were thwarted to a 4-2 defeat on Monday night against a much fitter Malaga side. Jorge Sampaoli’s men will return to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where they have suffered just one defeat.

Real Sociedad picked up their third straight La Liga win as they relegated Granada, winning the match 2-1. Sevilla bagged an emphatic 4-0 victory over Sociedad in the return fixture. That said, goals are a given in this tie. Back Over 2.5 Goals at 11/20.

Saturday 6 May

Sporting Gijon 11/20 | Draw 34/10 | Las Palmas 4/1
Sporting Gijon lie in the relegation places, hoping to find their way out in the last three games of the season. Gijon will need Leganes and Deportivo to lose their matches this weekend to put themselves in a more decent position.

Las Palmas are winless in four La Liga games, picking up just one point. The Yellows also come into this game off the back of a 5-0 dismantling at home to Atletico Madrid. This is a must-win game for Gijon. Back them to claim the all-important victory at 11/20.

Atletico Madrid 3/10 | Draw 4/1 | Eibar 19/2
One would think that with Atletico Madrid playing in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, they would take their foot off the gas in La Liga and rest a few key players. Their 5-0 away win last weekend showed that they are still in for the fight and will look to cement third spot.

Eibar ended their three-match winless run with a 2-0 win over Leganes last weekend. Eibar are quite comfortable in the top half of the table and should see their season through with expectations met. However, for this tie, Atletico should claim maximum points.

Barcelona 2/13 | Draw 13/2 | Villarreal 25/2
Title-chasing Barcelona face the last of the big teams that they are yet to play in La Liga. The other two remaining games are away to Las Palmas and then at home to Eibar on the final day. Barca know that a tie against the Yellow Submarine can prove very difficult.

Villarreal have won three league matches in a row now and will do everything in their might to knock Barca off the top as they push for a Champions League place. It could be decided by the odd goal. Get on the Winning Margins – Barcelona to Win By One Goal at 39/10.

Granada 15/1 | Draw 15/2 | Real Madrid 1/8
Relegated Granada look set for more misery as they host Real Madrid on Saturday night. Five losses in a row saw Tony Adams’ side drop down to the Spanish Segunda with three games left to play.

Real Madrid have a date with destiny in midweek, but that shouldn’t slow them down against Granada. Madrid should still go full strength for this match, especially with Barcelona chasing down the title. Back Madrid on the (-1) Handicap at 3/10.

Sunday 7 May

Alaves 38/10 | Draw 51/20 | Athletic Bilbao 7/10
Alaves and Athletic Bilbao face off in what should be a cracking contest. The hosts are undefeated in four La Liga outings, most recently recording a convincing 4-1 win away to Real Betis. Bilbao are also unbeaten in four games, but all four of those encounters were victories for the Lions.

Alaves’ home form is almost identical to Bilbao’s away form. These sides drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture and I’m backing them to share the spoils once more.

Valencia 2/9 | Draw 52/10 | Osasuna 19/2
Valencia have the chance to turn around their recent slump when they host Osasuna, who are already down in the dirt. The Bats are winless in four matches, losing three on the trot.

Osasuna are also winless in four games, but you would expect that sort of form from a side soon to play in the Segunda. Valencia should make home advantage count, but their defensive record should give Osasuna the slightest of chances. Take Both Teams to Score at 8/10.

Deportivo 1/1 | Draw 23/10 | Espanyol 11/4
Deportivo come into this fixture with all to play for, knowing that a win would put them in a comfortable spot for now. Pressure will be on as Sporting Gijon play before Depor. Espanyol come off a 3-0 home defeat to Barcelona. Two of the goals conceded were poor defensive errors by Quique Sanchez Flores’ men. Espanyol boast a decent record against the lower sides though and should prove tough to beat. Back Espanyol on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 7/10.

Malaga 5/10 | Draw 32/10 | Celta Vigo 52/10
Malaga look to have turned their season around at the right time, ending their campaign off on a high. The hosts have won five of their last six matches and three in a row. That’s the complete opposite form for Celta Vigo who have lost five of their last six encounters including three on the bounce.

Celta should also be resting their key players for their UEFA Europa League tie with Manchester United. Back Malaga here at 5/10!

Monday 8 May

Leganes 13/20 | Draw 26/10 | Real Betis 17/4
Leganes could all but seal survival with a win here. Lega are six points off the drop zone with three matches remaining. If Sporting Gijon fail to win, Leganes would need a win to secure safety. Real Betis suffered their second consecutive defeat last weekend, losing 4-1 at home to Alaves.

Betis have lost five of their last seven matches as well. Leganes have much more to play for, and as the betting suggests, they should come good. Back the hosts here at 13/20.
