Spanish La Liga: Week 37 Preview

 La-Liga-Gameweek-37-Preview

Round 37 of the La Liga kicks off on Friday evening.

Things are getting heated in the Spanish La Liga, but before it reaches boiling point, a champion is yet to be decided, while there is still one unwanted relegation spot that needs to be filled. Barcelona won their fifth straight game in the league with an emphatic 4-1 win over Villarreal, while a second-string Real Madrid side made short work of Granada, winning 4-0 away from home.

Down at the bottom, Sporting Gijon are hoping to make a late surge up the table but will need results from Leganes and Deportivo to go in their favour if they are to avoid the drop to Segunda. There are some great games to look forward to, and with just two rounds left to go, we could be in for a few surprises.

Saturday 13 May

Espanyol 13/10 | Draw 49/20 | Valencia 19/10
Espanyol and Valencia kick-start the gameweek with a clash between two mid-table sides. The hosts come off an impressive 2-1 win away to Segunda-threatened Deportivo. Two early goals inside the opening 30 minutes meant there was no way back for the struggling side.

Valencia ended their run of three straight losses to produce the goods against bottom-placed Osasuna, winning 4-1. In the Bats’ last eight away games, they have managed just one victory, losing six times. The home win is well-priced at 13/10 and is certainly worth a punt.

Osasuna 8/10 | Draw 11/4 | Granada 29/10
The second and final game on Saturday sees a clash between two sides who will not compete in La Liga next season. Osasuna host Granada in a tie that shouldn’t attract too much interest on the betting front.

The Reds have won just once at home this season, while Tony Adams’ men are yet to pick up a victory on the road. If you had to have a punt, take advantage of the high price on offer for Under 2.5 Goals at 13/10.

Sunday 14 May

Alaves 15/20 | Draw 5/2 | Celta Vigo 15/4
Alaves remained in the top half of the table with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao this past weekend. The Babazorros are one of the in-form sides at the moment in La Liga, enjoying a run of five matches without tasting defeat. In that run, they’ve picked up three solid victories.

Celta Vigo’s attention has turned to the UEFA Europa League and their results are starting to show for it. Four straight defeats in the top-flight sees Celta hovering at the top of the bottom half of the table. Take Alaves on the Double Chance & Under 2.5 Goals at even money.

Athletic Bilbao 4/10 | Draw 34/10 | Leganes 13/2
Athletic Bilbao failed to maintain their superb form of four consecutive wins when they were humbled 1-0 by Alaves last weekend. Leganes, on the other hand, all but secured survival with a 4-0 victory on Monday night against Real Betis.

Bilbao have only lost twice at home this season – both to Barcelona and Real Madrid. Lega have lost three consecutive matches away from their turf and with safety all but guaranteed, they might get caught vulnerable. Back the hosts here at 4/10.

Villarreal 5/10 | Draw 33/10 | Deportivo 47/10
Villarreal’s run of three consecutive wins ended as a rampant Barcelona knocked the Yellow Submarine out their way with quite some ease. Villarreal should get back to winning ways against Deportivo whose fate is in their own hands if they are to survive the drop.

A win for the travelling side would cement their place in the top-flight for next season. Their wretched form gives me no hope of backing Depor to get any sort of result here. Back Villarreal and make sure to include in all weekend multiples.

Real Sociedad 5/10 | Draw 33/10 | Malaga 5/1
Real Sociedad and Malaga clash in one of the gameweek’s most enticing matches. The Royals have been in some decent form, winning four of the last six matches and coming off a terrific 1-1 draw away to Sevilla last weekend.

Malaga have been just as great, if not better, claiming six wins from their last seven games, including four on the trot. Sociedad are not far off the Europa League places, making this game a must-win for Eusebio Sacristan’s side. Back the hosts on the Matchbet & Both Teams to Score (Yes) at 5/4.

Real Madrid 2/11 | Draw 13/2 | Sevilla 10/1
Title-chasing Real Madrid welcome fourth-placed Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabeu in what should be a crucial contest. Los Blancos have a date with destiny in midweek as they hope to defend their three-goal advantage against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Making it far in Europe’s elite competition has not slowed Zinedine Zidane’s side not one bit.

Madrid rested everyone but Casemiro and club captain Sergio Ramos in their 4-0 triumph over Granada last weekend. Sevilla were held back to a 1-1 scoreline against Real Sociedad, meaning that top four isn’t secure just yet. Sevilla won the reverse tie 2-1, and I’m expecting Real Madrid to serve them sweet revenge. Get on Madrid to Score In Both Halves at 4/10.

Real Betis 52/10 | Draw 29/10 | Atletico Madrid 5/10
Real Betis come into this game off the back of a disappointing 4-0 loss to Leganes. That defeat made it three losses in a row for Betis. That doesn’t bode well for their chances against Atletico Madrid, who have two on the bounce without conceding a goal.

One would imagine that Atletico could come out as wounded animals after their huge mountain to climb in midweek. Diego Simeone’s men claimed a 1-0 victory in the last match between the two sides. Back Atletico to claim another victory under their belt here at 5/10.

Las Palmas 17/1 | Draw 9/1 | Barcelona 1/11
Las Palmas have all but thrown in the towel for the rest of the campaign. Their safety in La Liga has seen the Yellows take their foot off the gas, losing three games in a row, failing to score in that run. Barcelona have been the most ruthless side in La Liga over the past month.

The Catalans have won five consecutive matches, winning the last three games by a margin of three goals or more. Las Palmas suffered a 5-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid two weeks ago and also lost 5-0 to Barca in the reverse tie. Get on the Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals market at 9/10.

Eibar 21/20 | Draw 26/10 | Sporting Gijon 22/10
Eibar host relegation-threatened Sporting Gijon at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium. The travelling side need nothing less than maximum points to stand a chance of survival. Eibar will be no pushovers, however, and will be doing no favours on the weekend.

The hosts have won 10 of their 18 home matches this season. Gijon have won away from home just once this campaign, but with all to play for, they might just push Eibar like never before. I’m backing Both Teams to Score (No) at 31/20.

TREBLE @ 4/1
Espanyol Win 13/10
Villarreal Win 5/10
Atletico Madrid Win 5/10
