Super Salah Earns Messi Comparisons

Jamie Carragher suspended by Sky Sports

Mohamed Salah continued his breathtaking goalscoring form on Saturday, hitting four goals as Liverpool thrashed Watford 5-0 at Anfield.

It was the first hat-trick in the Premier League by an Egyptian and means that Salah has now scored more goals than any other Liverpool player in the debut season, with a staggering 36 goals from 41 games.

The four-goal haul also saw Salah race into the lead for the Premier League’s golden boot. Salah now has 28 goals compared to Harry Kane’s 24, and with the Spurs striker currently out injured the former Roma and Chelsea forward looks certain to claim that award.

Salah now needs just one more goal to equal Didier Drogba’s 29 goals, the most ever scored by an African player in a Premier League season.

Two of Salah’s goals came after Lionel Messi-like dribbles, which immediately drew comparisons the Barcelona star, something that Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was keen to play down.

“That’s good. I don’t think Mo wants or anybody wants to be compared with Lionel Messi.

“He [Messi] is the one that is doing what he is doing for 20 years it feels like. “The last player that I know who had that influence on a team performance was Diego Maradona I think, another Argentine guy.

“Mo is on a fantastic way, that’s for sure. But how it always is in life, if you have the skills, then you have to show it, constantly. And his consistency is very good for us, he helps us a lot. The boys love playing together with him.”
