UEFA EURO: Selected Qualification Matches Preview

Domestic football has all but come to an end around the world, and so our attention rightfully turns to the international circuit. In Europe, Euro qualifiers are in full swing and hopefully these selected matches provide ample opportunity to pocket a few extra coins over the long weekend!

Friday 16 June

 Malta 43/1 | Draw 13/1 | England 1/33 (20:45)

This is England’s first international game since March, and even without their resting stars, I think they trounce their hosts here. 43/1 is intriguing, but there is nothing about Malta which causes me to think they can trouble England…back Over 3.5 Goals at 13/20.

Greece 12/10 | Draw 37/20 | Republic of Ireland 23/10 (20:45)

It’s an incredibly close game to call, the Irish are never shy of taking the game to anyone and given the inconsistencies of their hosts, I suspect they might be bolstered in confidence. Greece is too inconsistent for me – winning just twice from their last five and drawing to Malta and Lithuania…back the away win.

Gibraltar 46/1 | Draw 28/1 | France N/A (20:45)

I must admit, I don’t think I have ever seen a football game present N/A for any side! Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t for a second disagree either though. Respectfully there isn’t anywhere on the field where you look at Gibraltar and think they can get anything against the French.

France will likely also play a more youthful team, but they will be eager to prove themselves. France winning after 10 minutes at 19/10 makes enough appeal for me.

Denmark 2/7 | Draw 37/10 | Northern Ireland 17/2 (20:45)

Truthfully, I don’t really see either side possessing an incredible degree of quality…Denmark looked rather sluggish earlier in the year and Northern Ireland simply cannot keep a clean sheet for jam! Back the home win and over 2.5 goals at 9/20…

Norway 1/1 | Draw 2/1 | Scotland 5/2 (18:00)

This should be a tasty affair, but I really like the look of Scotland. They’re unbeaten this year (granted they have only played twice) and look to be enjoying a real confidence. Norway have struggled, and unless they dictate the game from the beginning, I doubt they get anything out of this one. Back the Scots!

Albania 4/10 | Draw 3/1 | Moldova 6/1 (20:45)

I’m not suggesting that the price about the home win is incorrect – I just don’t think Albania justify so short a price. Look, there isn’t much about Moldova that makes me think Albania are in trouble either though. Neither team have been able to consistently keep a clean sheet and so I think both teams scoring at 12/10 is a gift.

Belgium 11/20 | Draw 26/10 | Austria 44/10 (20:45)

Austria won’t roll over and accept defeat – not by any stretch of the imagination, but I think Belgium are just too strong. A lot has been made of the Red Devils’ evolving team, but I look at it with a degree of excitement and intrigue. 11/20 is fair and I think it’s a banker (for what’s it worth).

Iceland 17/10 | Draw 37/20 | Slovakia 31/20 (20:45)

It’s an interesting game insofar as the approach these teams will have. Iceland seems happy to always make the game as open and free flowing as possible while Slovakia, on the other hand, seem to prefer a tight and cagey affair. This screams draw – get on.

Portugal 2/11 | Draw 5/1 | Bosnia-Herzegovina 12/1 (17:30)

All of the pressure here will be on Portugal, nobody expects Bosnia to come even remotely close to winning and so as a result, the onus is now on Portugal to effectively bring the game to life. They certainly have the attacking players to do just that, but I worry about a younger and slightly inexperienced side being fielded. I would leave this out, but for a bet on the nose – Over 1.5 goals in the first half at 13/10 looks like a winner.
