Umtiti Signs New 5 Year Barca Deal

Zidane Linked to 3 Billion Move to Qatar

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has agreed to sign a five-year contract extension, the Catalan giants have announced.

The France centre-back has signed the extension, with an increased buyout clause thought to be in the region of £440 million euros, on Monday.

Barcelona hope the new deal will put an end to speculation about Umtiti’s future after he was linked to moves to several top European clubs including Manchester United.

The  24-year-old joined Barca from Lyon for £21.2m in 2016 and has forged a solid defensive unit with Gerard Pique.

He is currently preparing for the World Cup as part of France’s 23-man squad where he is expected to partner with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Just last week, Umtiti said: “It is clear that I want to renew my contract at Barcelona and I hope to be with the team next season.

“I’m at a club that allowed me to realise my dream of playing there.

“I’m still under contract at the moment. So for me to leave, either they throw me out the door or I decide to leave.”
