Top Bet
Race 4: CHARMING CHARLIE(5)
Jockey: Muzi YENI- Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

CHARMING CHARLIE is improving with each outing and he has by far the best credentials of this moderate bunch of maidens. The Greys Inn colt set the pace in his last nine furlong start at Turffontein and fought on gamely for a close 2nd despite shifting his ground badly over the final furlong. He was in turn exactly five lengths clear of the next placed runner. Top jockey Muzi Yeni rides him for the first time but will be aware of his theatrics and the pair should take all of the beating. The extra furlong will be no issue for the Mike de Kock inmate who has obvious scope for further progress.

Race 5: CONSEQUENTIALLY(11)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

CONSEQUENTIALLY clearly benefitted from blinkers and she finally showed her true worth when thrashing lesser rivals in yielding conditions over this trip at Turffontein, seven days ago. She was rightly upped the maximum eight pounds for her exertions but the daughter of Silvano still has more to offer and she should handle today’s rise in class, particularly with the headgear fitted once again. The Tarry inmate has another galloping mass of 53kgs and she will relish this longer run-in.

Race 9: ROQUEBRUNE(8)

Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

ROQUEBRUNE is a lightly raced Var gelding with issues but he has smart potential and still has good scope for improvement. His poor last showing must be totally ignored as the Mike Azzie inmate clearly didn’t enjoy racing twice inside five days. He showed his true worth with quality back-to-back efforts prior to that and the six week break would have done the gelding the world of good. Furthermore, he was docked a massive eight pounds after that showing and could take full advantage of that on his handicap debut today. He gets the services of top jockey Weichong Marwing.

Race 10: BUSH PILOT(1)

Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

BUSH PILOT is a lightly raced four-year old chestnut gelding who is making up for lost time. He was heavily supported on his promising debut over seven furlongs on this track and then made smart improvement second time out. The son of Judpot was slow into stride on the tight circuit at Turffonte- in but he produced a high class finish to win going away over the mile. The Woodruff inmate has huge scope for improvement and all the early signs are that he could turn into a very classy individual. He is still way ahead of the handicapper and should take a power of beating on his handicap debut despite top weight. His pedigree indicates that he will love today’s rise to ten furlongs.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: INTANDOKAZI(7)

Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer: Barend BOTES

INTANDOKAZI has been thereabouts recently and he finished well for a close 3rd at this level, six weeks ago. It could pay to follow the progress of Fieldmarshal Fenix who runs in race 2 as the latter finished in front of the top selection last time out. The Botes inmate escaped without a penalty for that effort and must go in again.
