Neil Morrice previews Tuesday’s UK racing which comes your way from Lingfield, Musselburgh and Wolverhampton.
Opening prices to be added on release.
Lingfield Best Bets
Race 2: BIRKENHEAD (1)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Callum Shepherd
An aptly named winner on Grand National week? BIRKENHEAD certainly would be, as he’s named after a district on Merseyside. He wasn’t that far adrift of the Brocklesby Stakes winner at Doncaster on Saturday and has gone forward for the run. He shouldn’t mind moving from turf to Polytrack.
Race 6: TIN FANDANGO (8)
Trainer: Mark Usher
Jockey: Josephine Gordon
There’s a good chance that TIN FANDANGO can get a grip on proceedings from the front, in which case he could be hard to peg back. He’s knocked on the door on both starts this year latterly at Kempton where a tendency to hang left cost him valuable yardage. However, if he repeats the trait it might not inconvenience him as this is a right-handed track.
Musselburgh Best Bets
Race 1: BAILEYS FREEDOM (2)
Trainer: Archie Watson
Jockey: Ed Greatrex
A product of the Alec Laird academy, Watson has shown himself to be a dab hand at getting his juveniles fit early, and BAILEYS FREEDOM can prove a case in point. From the first crop of sprint champion Muhaarer, he’s given off some positive signals at home and can outpoint Alminoor.
Race 7: VALLARTA (5)
Trainer: Ruth Carr
Jockey: Joe Garrity
A fit from the all-weather VALLARTA might have too many guns for hat-trick seeker Our Place In Louie whilst also representing better value. The selection rallied gamely when headed in quite a competitive scoring at Chelmsford City last month and should give it a good shot back on turf, even though facing competition for the lead by Commanche Grey and Foxy Boy.
Wolverhampton Best Bet
Race 4: BLOOD EAGLE (1)
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Oisin Murphy
The Balding stable is enjoying a good start to the season and in what looks a virtual match BLOOD EAGLE can capitalise on his previous all-weather experience to beat Eagles By Day. Although ultimately unable to mix it with Cirque Royal at Lingfield last month, it represented a fair step up on Blood Eagle’s debut run and now he will be sharper still.
