South Africa's sports minister, Gayton McKenzie, is committed to tackling the lack of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the nation's domestic football
The call for VAR implementation has intensified recently, particularly after contentious officiating decisions during Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

McKenzie took to social media to voice the widespread sentiment among football fans: “All football-loving fans know that the time for VAR has arrived in SA football.”
He stressed the urgency of adopting VAR, stating, “We need VAR and we need it now. Those meetings start now because we are not a 10th-world country.”
He confirmed plans to meet with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) within the week, promising to report back on the discussions.
The introduction of VAR could significantly enhance officiating standards and restore confidence in South African football.
