International Racing: Angers – Saturday 23rd May 2020

A competitive nine-race programme is scheduled for Dieppe on Tuesday. The best bet on the day is MINNIPA in Race 7. She has not finished too far off the winner in all four of her starts to date. She has got the best form in the race by some distance and should take a power of beating.

RECUERDAME is an unraced daughter of Gutaifan from the
Andrea Marcialis stable with Pierre-Charles Boudot in the saddle. She cost her
owners EUR €
22,000
. She does not need to be
a stable superstar to win in this type of field and if not too green, could get
her career off to a winning start. The betting market should be the best guide
with regards to her chances. PAMMY
BUCHANAN
is a daughter of Elusive
City from the Mathieu Boutin yard with Alex Roussel doing duty. She may be the
one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. A close eye will
need to be kept on the betting market to see what the connections think of her
chances in this contest. SWEET
DAMIANA
could be the first raced runner
past the winning post. She produced a fair debut effort when finishing fifth
over this distance at Chantilly. She would have gained from the experience and
with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be right there in the
run down to the wire.
GARDE ROYALE has finished second in both his efforts to
date, the latest of which was over this distance. He has got the best
credentials in this race and with Maxime Guyon doing duty from pole position,
he should shed his maiden tag this afternoon. GASBY DES PLANCHES produced
a fair debut effort over 2950m at Cholet. The four-year old gelding would have
come on from the run under his belt and with the natural improvement that is
expected, he should be the one to pick up the pieces should the top selection
fluff his lines. GOLD VIC is an unraced daughter of Samum from the
Philip Peltier stable with Pierre-Charles Boudot in the irons. If not too green
this afternoon, she should be right there in the run down to the finish. The
betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
XAAROS is the value bet on this afternoon’s
programme. He was stepped up to Group 3 company in his last start over six
furlongs at Chantilly but did not shape. He produced two good runs prior to
that outing and is a winner of his only attempt over this distance. He is
having his second run after a rest today and should strip a much fitter horse.
Pierre-Charles Boudot who was on board when he won his maiden, steps back into
the saddle today and the combination should be tough to beat. LLOYD was a tad disappointing in his last start after winning his penultimate
effort well. Both of those outings were on the all-weather surface. He will
enjoy returning to race on the turf today as he has won twice from three
attempts on the surface. Maxime Guyon knows him well and the pair should be
involved in the fight out to the finish. MANGKHUT showed good signs
of returning to best form in his last start over a mile at Compiegne. His
record on the turf track is decent having won twice, finishing second once and
third once from eight starts. Cristian Demuro does duty this afternoon and the
pair must be included in all bets.
RESPLENDOR’S last two starts have been disappointing, but
he is much better than they suggest. He returns from a two-month break this
afternoon, which may have been what the son of Orpen needed. The statistic that
catches the eye is that he is unbeaten from two starts on this course. He gets
the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice today which should help his cause.
He jumps from a positive barrier position and may be the one to side with here. GOLDEN WOOD got back to winning ways in his last start over 2600m at Fontainebleau.
He has a good record over this distance having won five times, finishing second
four times and third twice from nineteen attempts. Christophe Soumillon retains
the ride and the combination should be the ones to pick up the pieces should
the top selection fluff his lines. YMOHTEP
is better than his last start
suggests. The manner in which he won his penultimate effort over ten furlongs
was eye-catching. If repeating that run this afternoon, he should have a good
chance of earning a cheque.
LETTY’S MARVEL is a winner
of his last two starts over 2500m at Deauville on the all-weather surface. He
loves racing on the turf surface as he has won twice, finished second twice and
third once from as many outings. Fabien Lefebvre who was aboard in his last two
starts, retains the ride and the combination should notch up the hat-trick this
afternoon. DALVINI has not finished too far off the winner in
his last three starts. He likes racing over this distance as he has won three
times and finished third once from nine attempts over the trip. Christophe
Soumillon sticks with the ride today and the pair should be right there in the
run down to the finishing post. ALACOVIA is a mare taking on the males and she
produced a decent comeback run when finishing third over 2500m at Saint Cloud
last time. She has won three times and finished second twice from fifteen
attempts over this distance. She is having her second run after a rest and
should strip a much fitter horse. Alexis Badel knows her well and the pair
merit healthy respect.
THALYIA is a mare taking on the males. She won her
last two starts well, before given a lengthy 15-month break, during which time
she would have strengthened up. She tries the turf for the first time and if
taking to the surface, she should notch up the hat-trick. Stephane Pasquier who
was aboard her in her last starts, retains the ride which is encouraging. SHANNKIYR followed up his maiden victory with a decent effort over twelve furlongs
last time. The son of Elusive Quality may enjoy the drop back in distance this
afternoon at this stage of his career. He returns from a nine-month break and
if not in need of this outing, should be the one to throw out the biggest
challenge to the top selection. BLISS
FOR EVER
is a maiden taking on
winners, but he has produced five decent efforts to date. He has finished
second once and third three times from as many starts on this surface. In-form
Pierre-Charles Boudot knows him well and the pair must be included in all bets.
Race 7 – PRIX DES ILLETES
MINNIPA is the best bet on today’s card. She was
touched off over a mile at Cagnes-Sur-Mer on the all-weather surface. The way
she finished off her race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra
furlong on offer this afternoon. She gets the services of the same 1.5kg
claiming apprentice and should go one better here. KUNDRIE showed good
improvement to finish third in her last start over 1900m at Deauville on the
all-weather surface. She should come into this contest as one of the fitter
horses. Pierre-Charles Boudot does duty for the first time and he may be able
to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most. SPATIAL MERIT needed her last start over a mile at Longchamp. She produced a good
penultimate effort when finishing third over a mile at Angers. If repeating
that run, she should have a decent shout of running into the money. She is
having her second run after a rest today and should strip much fitter.
KOURKAR got back to winning ways in his last start
over ten furlongs at Fontainebleau. He tries the twelve furlongs for the first
time this afternoon, but the manner in which he races suggests that he will
enjoy the step up in distance. Eddy Hardouin knows him well and the combination
have a good chance of notching up the double. DANCE THE BLUES produced a
good comeback run when finishing third over ten furlongs at Longchamp last
time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from seven attempts
over this distance. Pierre-Charles Boudot takes the ride this afternoon and he
may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. GO FAST produced four decent efforts before given a short two-month break. He has
won once, finished second twice and third three times from fifteen attempts
over this distance. Stephane Pasquier steps back into the saddle today and the
pair merit healthy respect.
Race 9 – PRIX DES COTEAUX
This is a weak
Handicap for three-year olds and caution is advised. The narrow first selection
is CARRIBEAN BAY who is a filly taking on the males. She won
her maiden well in her penultimate start and followed that up with a decent
effort over a mile at Longchamp last time. She is having her second run after a
rest today and should strip a much fitter horse. Eddy Hardouin knows her well
and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. MA BOY HARRIS has produced some decent form since shedding his maiden tag. He tries
the seven furlongs for the first time, but the way he races suggests that he
will enjoy the rise in distance. Maxime Guyon takes the ride for the first time
and he may be able to get the best out of the son of Dandy Man in the run down
to the wire. SILENCIOUS showed good signs of returning to best form
in her last start. She has a decent record over this distance having won twice
and finishing third once from five attempts. She should have no issues with
regards to fitness coming into this race and has a decent chance of going close
to winning.
