Gulfstream Park Best Bets

Race 2 (Claiming): No7 – MA MEATLOAF
Trainer: Todd Pletcher – Jockey: Edgard Zayas

MA MEATLOAF brings consistent Aqueduct form at this level to the table for her first run at Gulfstream, and first for the Pletcher barn. She scored at that New York track last November at a mile but has been just as effective when sprinting more recently. A wide post shouldn’t compromise her in this small field, and she should have too much for Blue Blue Ice who is effective over this track and trip, with Sizzling Roma another to consider.

Prediction: 7-1-6

Race 4 (Maiden Special Weight): No5 – PRAIRIE WINGS
Trainer: Todd Pletcher – Jockey: Edgard Zayas

PRAIRIE WINGS forms part of an entry with Assume but the daughter of Tapit has more points on the board than that barn mate or any of her rivals, having run two solid races here, and seeming to like the step up to a mile on first run for her trainer last month. Assume should also pick up a slice of the purse after troubling the judge in both starts so far, but the biggest danger to the selection might be Sneer, who left the cash behind last time but now steps up in trip.

Prediction: 5-1-4

Race 6 (Maiden Claiming): No7 – CHILL HAZE
Trainer: Saffie Joseph – Jockey: Emisael Jaramillo

CHILL HAZE got in as a reserve last week but the reason he scratched might be that this is a more straightforward opportunity. He’s done nothing wrong in posting two near misses since joining this barn and looks a winner waiting to happen for a trainer striking at 50% winners to runners. If fit after a lengthy absence, Sandys Blaze can also get involved, as he showed unexpected ability on debut last autumn and has subsequently moved barns. Fast Magic put in a promising first effort for Joe Orseno here a month back, and needs to be taken seriously if progressing from that.

Prediction: 7-4-8

Race 11 (Allowance Optional Claiming): No1 – ELUSIVE MOLLY
Trainer: Mike Maker – Jockey: Edgard Zayas

Those that followed the cash that came for ELUSIVE MOLLY in her last two starts here in the winter were rewarded with pick ups at 10-11 and 4-5. In every career start she’s taken home a cheque, and as this is only her seventh outing she deserves a step up the class ladder, one that she should take in her stride. She looks stronger than her trainer’s other runner Spartanka, who needs to rally from a heavy defeat in better company last time. Fiftyshays Ofgreen appeals as a stronger foe, bringing decent New York form to the table for a first start since early February.

Prediction: 1-5-4
