International Racing: Friday 08 May 2020 – Coffs Harbour

International Racing: Thursday 07 May 2020 – Townsville

It’s an early start for this eight-race programme at Coffs Harbour, this Friday 8th May. WITHOUT RISK has her peak run after a rest, when she steps out in the 4th race. The step up in trip will suit and she should be one of the more confident bets on the card. In the very next race, VOLFONI looks set for a big performance and he could be some nice value to follow in what looks an open race. See more here.

Race 1 – 04:30 – 1000m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 3 – 11 – 2 – 5 – 6
FLYING HONOUR has only had the five starts so far and he looks set to leave the maidens after an eye-catching finish last time out. From just off the speed he’ll mount a big challenge and rates a big runner with the improvement to come on his peak run. SUPER ROCKER gave a good sight in his follow up trial just over a month ago and he should have something to offer first up. ANOTHER OPTION is having his second run after a rest, having needed that comeback run last month. If finding better underfoot conditions this time, he should feature in the finish. LAKE PLACID has his first run this year and if not too in need of this, he should be able to improve on his fair debut run towards the beginning of November.

Race 2 – 05:05 – 1000m – F&M Maiden Plate
Selections: 3 – 10 – 2 – 7 – 9
FUDGINIT got to the lead but was run down late to finish a neck back in second last time, when having her first start this year. That would’ve brought her on nicely and with plenty of scope of improvement she looks well set to notch up her first career win here. VALLEJO appears to be the biggest danger after producing a big finish in heavy conditions last time, in just her second career outing. The daughter of Written Tycoon will be looking to settle a little closer to the leading line this time and with improvement to come, she rates a threat. COOL MISSILE has her debut after a very encouraging trial in April. The daughter of Smart Missile will relish this trip first up and she must be included. SPIRITED BELLE is still a maiden after 36 starts, but she has been showing shades of improvement and can feature with a place finish.

Race 3 – 05:40 – 1300m – Maiden Handicap
Selections: 3 – 12 – 13 – 1 – 4
TOLERATE stormed home for just a 0,83-length defeat on debut, after settling far back. The daughter of So You Think should have plenty of scope for improvement over the slight step up in trip and she should just about win this. NANAKOROBI YAOKI finished right behind the top selection in that latest appearance when also making up good ground late. With a rail run this time, she should also have improvement to come and looks the biggest challenger to the top one. OUR GIRL WANDA went close to winning when having her first run this year. She was knocking on the door for that maiden win towards the backend of her last campaign and with just five runs under her belt, she should have plenty of improvement to come. FLYING MOJO ran on well and looked a winning chance in that latest effort, when dropping back into maiden company for his first outing this year. He should strip fitter here and he could be very effective with the increased tempo over this reduced trip.

Race 4 – 06:15 – 1600m – BM58 Handicap
Selections: 5 – 4 – 7 – 2 – 3
WITHOUT RISK has her peak run after showing up well in both return outings of late. She may have just needed both of those runs over shorter and the step up to the mile is bound to suit. With two wins and three seconds from just seven career starts to date, she looks progressive and will be looking to take advantage of that perfect draw this time. Jeff Penza jumps aboard, and she should be the best bet on the card. MY DESIRE flew home from well back to fill third place in that latest run when stepping back onto more favourable conditions. The 3-year old daughter of Sidestep has a much better record in good going and she has the credentials to go right into the equation here. IN YA SKYROCKET and CONDOVER HALL are both approaching the kind of form that suggests a big performance can be expected soon and both can find the places in this company.

Race 5 – 06:50 – 1600m – Class 1 & Maidens
Selections: 5 – 2 – 10 – 8 – 14
VOLFONI sustained a strong finish last time out when settling off the early speed. That was his fifth career start and his first when stepping up from 5-furlongs to the 1516m. The 3-year old son of Smart Missile should relish the mile now and with his regular rider retaining he should have a good shout at finding the winners enclosure. CHARGEMENT was eye-catching when also producing a strong finish last time out, in this class of opposition. He seems to be producing his best in soft underfoot conditions which is worth noting at race time. Drawn well, he is worth including on best form. THE TIMEWARP finds a plum draw for his return to the mile after producing his best over the final 400m in a 1400m Class 2 Handicap last time out. That was after winning his maiden over the same course in distance in his penultimate start and he can feature once again from a plum draw at this level. LADY WAHOO has gone close in her last two starts under Raymond Spikes, who seems to be getting the best out of the 5-year old mare. She has the gate speed and should be able to find a handy position from that draw. If able to dictate in front, she’ll go close.

Race 6 – 07:25 – 1000m – BM66 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 1 – 5 – 12 – 13
GOLD RHAPSODY has won in eye-catching fashion in her last two starts, proving her love for the soft underfoot conditions. With her latest triumph, which also happened to be a BM66 Handicap, she took her record over this trip to five wins from 11 attempts. Georgina McDonell won on her last engagement aboard the 4-year old mare, back in November and that was in good conditions over this trip. She has her peak run after a rest and with the 3kg claim off her back, she could just land the hat-trick. JULE’S SPIRIT won his last start over this trip, taking his record over the 1000m to four wins from eight attempts. Luke Rolls retains the ride and he rates a threat. UPPER EAST SIDE hasn’t finished too far off the winner since picking up his fourth career win back in November. He finds an open race and should be involved in the finish. CRACKNECK is yet to win in eleven attempts over this trip but he has gone close in his last two starts to continue a good run of form. With Matthew Paget retaining the ride, he has the form to feature.

Race 7 – 08:00 – 1400m – Class 2 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 11 – 4 – 6 – 2
ASTRALIS was a decisive winner in her last start to pick up her maiden win. That was her seventh time of asking and her fist at this course. With scope for more she looks likely to follow up in this class. VALUE ABBEY converted some solid recent form into a win last time out and she lands a plum draw for her follow up attempt. She seems to enjoy this trip and could be the biggest threat to the top one. CAN’T BEAT ME and SUPREME DIVA both have six runs under the belt and look progressive enough to go close in this sort of company, on the back of some solid recent form.

Race 8 – 08:35 – 1200m – BM58 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 2 – 8 – 3 – 12
LOLLY ROLLY won in a common canter last time out in heavy going, landing her second career win at just the sixth time of asking. She clearly enjoys this course, with that being her second win in two starts here and if given a similar ride this time she should be major contender. VELVET AEROPLANE has her first run after a short break, and she makes her course debut here. She has finished second on two occasions from three first up attempts and with a solid record over this trip, she should be one of the leading contenders.  NICCONI LASS has given a good account of herself in both of her comeback runs of late and she now lines up for her peak run. She’ll be cherry ripe for this and must be included. DREAMTIME MAGIC was involved in the finish in both runs prior to that last start in soft conditions. She found traffic in that run and if finding a smoother passage this time, the 3-year old daughter of Dream Ahead should feature prominently in the finish.
