International Racing: Gulfstream Park – Friday 03 April 2020 (Turf/Dirt)

An exciting nine-race programme can be looked forward to at Gulfstream Park on Friday. The best bet on the card comes in Race 5 in the form of DALARNA. He has won his last three starts with consummate ease and should be tough to beat today.

Race 1
MISSANDEI is an unraced daughter of Fed Biz from the Brendan Walsh stable. She has put in some decent workouts coming into this race and if not too green, should be right there in the firing line. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances. PRINCESA CRYSTAL has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She raced three wide around the turn in her last start, but the manner in which she finished off the race was encouraging. Hector Berrios knows her well and the pair merit healthy respect. BULLDAT is lightly raced and has fair form to her credit. She moved up well last time but lacked extra where it matters most. Miguel Vasquez retains the ride and she must be included in all bets. I’M A ROCKSTAR was making steady progress in her last start over this distance. If repeating that effort today, she can run into the minor money.

Race 2
UYEDA is the value bet on today’s card. He was an impressive winner on debut over 1100m at Tampa Bay Downs. He does take on much stronger this afternoon, but the manner in which he won last time suggests that there is plenty more to come from the son of Cairo Prince. He makes his stable debut and if he has settled into his new surroundings, he may be the one to beat. FRONTIER MESA showed big improvement to win his maiden race last time. He set the pace and kept finding all the way to the finishing post. He does take a rise in class this afternoon, but he is lightly raced and looks to have scope. FLAMING HOT followed up his maiden victory with very good effort last time. He rallied in the straight, but went down by just a nose. If repeating that effort, he should be involved in the run down to the line. TRAVELIN GAMBLER showed good signs of a form return in his last start. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance and with Joel Rosario doing duty, he should run into the money.

Race 3
NEXTSTOP POKIPC has shown good improvement in his last two starts over the minimum distance. He was his own worst enemy last time as he was slow into stride, but the way he ran on at the business end was encouraging. If jumping on terms today, he should be the one they all have to beat. NOT NOW RAND was well beaten into 4th over 1300m last time. He set the pace in his penultimate start and only went down by two lengths. If repeating that effort, he may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. BULKCARRIER has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He didn’t have much luck last time as he raced five wide around the turn. He finished his race off well that day and with a bit of luck in running this afternoon, he should be involved in the fight out to the finish. NEWYORK GIANT was well beaten into 3rd last time. He was pipped in his penultimate effort and on that run, he should finish right on top of the leading contenders.

Race 4
NICK NICK is an unraced son of First Dude from the Armando De La Cerda stable. It is eye-catching that top jockey Joel Rosario is engaged to ride. He does not need to be one of the stable superstars to win in this field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances. VOICESINTHEDARKNEZ has produced two fair career efforts this far. He likes to race handy in his races and with more natural progression that is expected, he should be right there in the run down to the line. PLAN OF ATTACK showed good improvement in his first start for his new stable over this course and distance. He didn’t have much luck in running that day and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. Edgard Zayas rides and if he is able to overcome the wide draw, the pair should be involved in the fight out to the finish. INDIRECTLY is better than his below-par latest effort suggests. If repeating his penultimate run when finishing second, he may be a contender in the closing stages.

Race 5
DALARNA is the best bet on today’s card. He has won his last three starts much easier than the official margin suggests under jockey Victor Lebron. He loves racing over this distance with four wins and two third-place finishes from ten attempts. The son of One King will be very hard to beat and should notch up his ninth career victory. POWER WALKER won his last start at Tampa Bay Downs with ease. He loves racing on this course with a record of two wins and a second-place finish from as many outings. Emisael Jaramillo steps back into the saddle today and the pair should be one of the leading contenders for the placings. HIGH NOON RIDER’S last start on this course was good. He stayed on well at the business end of the race that day and if repeating that effort, must have a say in this contest. ALIEN INVASION’S last two starts have been good. He is likely to have his own way in front today and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 6
ELLIS ISLAND produced a promising debut effort over seven furlongs on this course. He raced three-wide around the turn and ran on strongly up the straight. The step up to the 1700m should suit him well and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be tough to beat. It is encouraging that jockey Luis Saez does duty this afternoon. CANDY MACHINE stayed on well at the business end when producing an encouraging debut over six furlongs. He is bred to enjoy the rise in distance and there should be good improvement to come. From his good draw of three, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. OR’EFFICE showed good improvement in his last start over this course and distance. It is interesting that Luis Saez who rode him in his last start, has opted to ride the top selection instead this afternoon. MAU MAU is an unraced son of Empire Maker from the William Mott stable. Joel Rosario does duty from pole position today and any betting support for him must be taken seriously.

Race 7
INTEREST’S last start can be completely ignored as she stumbled badly at the start. She was well beaten in her penultimate run, but that effort was on the dirt. She won her maiden race well over this course and distance under today’s pilot and on that effort, she could find her way into the winner’s enclosure today. SILLY NOTION just won her maiden race last time. She saved ground in the early stages of the race and edged up well in the closing stages. She would have come on with the experience under her belt and looks to have plenty of scope about her. TEACHER DRAMA’S last run was decent considering that she ducked at the start. She won her penultimate effort well and if jumping properly today, she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. WICKED SOLUTION is better than her moderate last start suggests. She takes a drop in the ratings and on best form shown, she can run into the minor money.

Race 8
OFF TOPIC was an impressive winner of her last start. She was not disgraced in two Group 1 races prior to that. She won her only start on this course and with Luis Saez in the saddle, she has a good chance of notching up her third career victory. FINAL CUT has been an impressive winner in her last three starts. She makes her course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, she should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. SO CUNNING has been impressive when winning both of her career starts. She steps up to the mile for the first time and faces her toughest test to date. However, she does look to have some class about her and with Joel Rosario in the saddle, she cannot be ignored. BELLA CIAO has not finished too far off the winner in her last three starts. It must be noted that Leonel Reyes was aboard the daughter of Flatter when she last won a race and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 9
TAPIT TO RIDE has produced four decent efforts thus far, all of which have been under today’s pilot Luis Saez. The daughter of Tapit likes to race up with the pace in her races and in this type of field, she could quicken up the best at the top of the lane to draw off and notch up the victory. POLISHED COPPER showed good improvement in her last start over this course and distance. She didn’t get the best of beginnings that day as she hit the gate and was bumped shortly after. With a bit of luck in running, she should be the one to pick up the pieces should the top rating fluff her lines. MATCHA has fair form to her credit. She raced handy in her last start, but lacked a finish up the straight. Luis Reyes takes the ride this afternoon which is encouraging as he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her in the closing stages. LASKA’S last three starts have been decent. She swung into the home straight four-wide last time and was making steady progress. She jumps from a handy barrier position today and can run into the minor money.
