Race 1

ARTISTE produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on nicely to finish second. The daughter of Canford Cliffs would have gained from the experience and she should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

BACK AT THE GEORGE ran a fair race in her last start over this C&D. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of What A Winter is a progressive type and she may have more to come.

HAY FEVER is an unraced daughter of Lancaster Bomber from the Justin Snaith stable with Grant van Niekerk in the saddle. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timers in this contest.

Race 2

EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN caught the eye when second on debut over this C&D. He was slow into stride but moved up well and challenged strongly all the way to the line. The son of Lancaster Bomber would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

SURGE OF POWER finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today. He would have come on from the run and is one of the leading contenders.

LATE DECEMBER ran a good race on debut over this C&D. He was slow into stride, understandably raced green but stayed on at the finish. Keanen Steyn retains the ride and he should make the natural progression.

Race 3

TSUNAMI WARNING should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was cramped for galloping room in the latter stages. His penultimate run when second over 1600m catches the eye. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.

DEVIL A SAINT ran a good race when third in his last start over this C&D. He has finished third in all three of his efforts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

TOM’S DINER stayed on when fourth in his last start over this C&D. The son of Pomodoro is a progressive type and Aldo Domeyer may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 4

TYRION LANNISTER is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was over 1600m on this course. He finished off his race well that day and got up where it matters most. The son of Royal Mo meets a similar line-up this afternoon and he can notch up the hat-trick.

FIBONACCI finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

FUTURE TURN ran a fair race in his last start over 1600m. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 5

AMONG THE CLOUDS ran on well when second in her last start over 1400m on this course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she should have no issues with the rise to the mile. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

PHILOSOPHISE finished 1.5 lengths behind ENCHANTING CHOICE last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. From her good draw of two, she merits healthy respect.

ENCHANTING CHOICE set the pace when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Rafeef is in a good space and can follow up.

Race 6

IGNATIUS ran a good race when third in his last start over 1800m on this course. He raced from a handy position, moved up well but was outrun late. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. Morne Winnaar retains the ride and if all goes according to plan from pole position, he can return to winning ways.

MARSHALL FIELD’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that Lightning Glow has come out and won again since. He finished 0.45 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

TWICE THE MASTER is better than his last start over 2000m. He won his only attempt over this C&D. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be involved at the finish.

Race 7

STEADFAST finished 2.65 lengths behind RADICCHIO last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has cracked pole position which is a big plus. He is starting to return to best form and may be the one to side with.

RADICCHIO is a winner of his last two starts. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He is likely to race on the speed under Richard Fourie and can notch up the hat-trick.

WAR CHARIOT stayed on when fourth in the Non-Black Type Newlands Stakes last time. It must be noted that Tyrion Lannister has come out and won again since. He has plenty of scope and must be included in all bets.

Race 8

This is a competitive Class 4 contest and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BENJAMIN from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable. His last three starts have been decent. He finished 0.3 lengths behind MIGHTY MAC in his penultimate run and is 4kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. He takes a drop in class and with Aldo Domeyer back in the saddle, he can return to winning ways.

THE TINKERMAN is much better than his last start suggests. He has been unlucky and should have finished closer in his last two starts. If all goes according to plan, he may be the one to cause the upset in this field.

BLUFF ON BLUFF has been taking on much stronger company in recent outings. He has finished second twice from three starts over this C&D. He takes a drop in class and if putting his best foot forward, he should be involved.

Race 9

GIRL LIKE US ran a good race when second in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of What A Winter meets a similar line-up this afternoon and she can go one better.

GREAT CAT took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but was caught late by First Masterpiece. She has won once and finished third twice from five starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

DOUBLE DREAM finished 1.6 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
