Allrounder Jason Holder has proven a good leader for the ODI and Test units even if the results have been a mixed bag. Holder has established himself as a genuine allrounder, improving his batting immensely to add to some much-needed quality to the lower order.
The ODI group has been quite settled and the Cricket World Cup saw some encouraging displays from a team dogged by constant changes in the coaching staff.
Allrounder Roston Chase, Fast bowler Kemar Roach and join a leaner ODI squad that also includes Chris Gayle. The Universe Boss just keeps going.
There is no space for Rovman Powell or Jason Mohammed in the West Indies ODI squad as Shai Hope comes in and is expected to take the gloves. Nicholas Pooran is in the squad as a batsman and reserve keeper.
The West Indies have some excellent players but still seem like a last-minute cricket stew that has simply been thrown together.
India
By contrast, India are a side that has been assembled with tremendous attention to detail, for the ODIs they welcome back spin-twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar are the only two members of the T20I squad to miss out on the ODI series.
Young seamer Navdeep Saini will get more opportunities to impress after making a stellar T20I debut. Saini took two wickets in his first over in international cricket and ended the match with figures of 3/17.
Rishabh Pant will take the gloves in an ODI in a glimpse into India’s future with MS Dhoni still away on military duty.
India will want to put on the slickest display they can after a disappointing Cricket World Cup exit last month but the West Indies will not be pushovers.
Shreyas Iyer has an opportunity to stake his claim to India’s number four role but he faces competition from Pant.
