Magic Tips Finish Prediction
This is undoubtedly the most eagerly anticipated clash of the Gauteng Autumn season and the Mike Azzie yard is represented by three of the twelve entrants, with all eyes firmly on the Triple Crown seeking, brilliant gelding ABASHIRI. The son of Go Deputy’s record of five wins from seven starts speaks for itself and he is already the joint favourite in the early July market. The bay is unbeaten from four starts with Zechner in the saddle and he possesses a super-impressive turn of foot but the obvious worry is how he will fare over the staying distance that he tries for the first time.
His new stable companion PENTELIKO (SCRATCHED) has no such issues though as he recently completed back-to-back victories over twelve furlongs for his previous conditioner, the latest on his handicap debut. The chestnut gelding clearly improved after the operation at the beginning of this year and he had a bit in hand when comfortably beating subsequent winner Fortune Fella last time out. His early merit rating suggests that he has a mountain to climb at the weights but this son of Go Deputy could develop into a top class stayer and he should pose a major threat to his more fancied stable companion. (Please note Preview was done before Penteliko was scratched – Ed)
