Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: BONNIE DAWN(4)
Race 2: FLAMING MAD(13)
Race 3: AIR FORCE LEGEND(1)
Race 4: KNYSNA ROSE(14)
Race 2: FLAMING MAD(13)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA
The juvenile filly FLAMING MAD was heavily backed on her promising debut over this trip on the Classic Track last month and she is obviously highly regarded by her conditioner. She was hindered by a slow start and her jockey probably moved on her too soon. Still, the daughter of Captain Al is above-average and she finished a creditable 3rd behind Bonnie Dawn (major contender in first race). She would have come on appreciably from that effort and should make natural improvement. Top veteran jockey Andrew Fortune has secured the ride.
Top Bet
Race 3: AIR FORCE LEGEND(1)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer: Scott KENNY
AIR FORCE LEGEND may be at his best racing down the straight and he has definite claims over this c & d. In-form jockey Wrogemann retains the ride on three-year-old chestnut gelding.
Race 4: SEAL MY FATE(1)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN
SEAL MY FATE has found form again but the mile was arguably too far for her recently. Still, she finished 4th on that occasion but had a great penultimate run when going close over this c & d. The daughter of Horse Chestnut has produced some of her better performances on this track and she gets the nod.
Race 7: MOMBELA(1)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY
MOMBELA is a lightly raced four-year-old with issues but he certainly has some class about him and could be ahead of the handicapper despite a recent four-pound hike in his merit rating. The extremely well-bred son of Trippi ran on well to record a fluent victory over subsequent winner Hililyhililyhilo in his comeback run over six furlongs recently and he should build on that performance. That was his first start after being gelded, suggesting that the operation was a success and the Tarry inmate could have a decent future. He is bred to relish this rise in distance & should be followed with confidence.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 6: MAGIC(7)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS
The Leon Erasmus stable holds a decent hand in this highly competitive sprint handicap where the various speedsters could harm each other’s chances. That will play directly into the hands of the ultra-consistent and often strong finishing MAGIC who is the first selection. The blinkers have made a real difference to the bay gelding who is well handicapped.
