Wreckage from Emiliano Sala Missing Plane Found

Soccer Players celebrate a goal

Wreckage from the plane that was carrying footballer Emiliano Sala has been found in the English Channel.

The light aircraft had been carrying the Cardiff City striker and pilot David Ibbotson from Nantes in France in 21 January when it lost contact with air traffic control.

The initial four-day search revealed nothing, but over $300 000 was raised via a Go Fund Me page after the likes of superstars Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero spoke out about continuing the search.

David Mearns, the marine scientist leading the search, revealed the plane was found late on Sunday and further efforts for identification will take place in Monday.

“The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by police,” said Mearns.

“Our sole thoughts are with the families and friends of Emiliano and David.”

Cardiff had just signed Sala for a club record fee of £15 from Nantes.
