Another enthralling weekend of sporting action has just passed and for some, it was an extremely profitable one.
We’ve decided to take a look back at the past few weekend’s worth of action to see if we can identify which teams have been the most profitable to follow.
Rugby
Heroes: Lions
The Lions are an absolute gift horse for punters at the minute. Johan Ackerman’s side are racking up wins like they were going out of fashion. They’ve had some big prices affixed to their names in recent weeks and have netted rugby punters some great returns.
Let’s take a look at what the men from Johannesburg could have netted over the past two weeks:
Saturday 9 April v Sharks: To Win (80 Mins) 16/10
Result: Lions 24-9
Saturday 17 April v Stormers: To Win (80 Mins) 7/10
Result: Lions 29-22

Zeros: Sharks
The Sharks have been in horrific form this term and have only managed to win three of their seven fixtures.
While they did stay within the +5.5 handicap this weekend, I would recommend staking your hard earned cash elsewhere.
If you were one of the unfortunate few who have been backing the Natalians (I’m guilty of this myself) you’d be looking at some poor returns:
Saturday 9 April v Lions: Sharks To Win (80 Mins)
Result: Lions 24-9
Saturday 16 April v Blues: Sharks on the +5.5 handicap 9/10
Result: Blues 23-18
While a one rand loss isn’t the worst thing in the world, I’d still recommend staying clear of the Sharks as that loss tally is likely to add up over the coming weeks if you continue to back the out of sorts KZN franchise.
Football
Heroes: Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone’s side enjoyed a brilliant showing in both the Champions League and La Liga last week. They got their week off to an ideal start by defeating Barcelona 2-0 in midweek European action.
They then capped off the week with a 3-0 victory over Granda on the domestic front.
That league win has seen them move level on points with Barcelona at the summit of the La Liga table.
Here’s how things would have panned out if you had backed the Madrid club:
Wednesday 13 April v Barcelona: Atletico to Win (90 Mins) 22/10
Result: Atletico 2-0
Sunday 17 April v Granda: Atletico to Win (90 Mins) 4/10
Result: Atletico: 3-0

Zeros: Barcelona and Arsenal
Two teams who are regular features on most football punters multiples will have left a good few people unhappy last week.
Both sides failed to register victories this past week despite being priced up as huge favorites heading into their games.
Let’s take a look at how poorly these two giants of the game’s poor performances would have cost you:

Golf
The past fortnight has proved exceedingly profitable for golf punters who fancy an outsider. Danny Willet – who was priced up at a crazy 100/1 – won the Masters and this past weekend saw Branden Grace – who also had a decent price tag affixed to his name – claim the Heritage Open title.
Hero: Matt Kuchar
The Kuch’ may not have racked up a place finish at the Masters but he has managed to finish in the top ten three times this year. He enjoyed a decent outing at the RBC Heritage last week where he managed to finish in ninth spot.
The American seems to be enjoying a stellar run of form and is certainly one to look out for in the coming weeks.
Zero: Graeme McDowell
G-Mac has been tipped by our golf writers quite often recently, but the Englishman has failed to deliver. He looked to have turned a corner at the Honda Open earlier in the year where he managed a top five finish. Since then, however, G-Mac has been on a massive slide which has culminated in him missing the cut at the Masters and then finishing 99th at the RBC Heritage this past weekend.
If you were unfortunate enough to back McDowell over the past two weeks you would have walked away with nothing but regret.
