The reason we’re backing the Waratahs is two-fold. Firstly they are guaranteed the ascendancy at the breakdown with Michael Hooper sure to take full advantage of Pocock’s absence. Secondly, their new centre pairing of Folau and Beale excites the living daylights out of us. The duo are such good ball players that we reckon they’ll need no adjustment period and will simply hit the ground running.
Leicester to beat West Ham at 9/10
West Ham have had an excellent season and will provide stubborn resistance for the Foxes in the first half, potentially taking them 0-0 or 1-1 to the break. However, West Ham’s midweek fixture will have an effect on the dynamic of the match in the latter stages, especially considering Leicester’s penchant for late heroics.
Villareal to beat Rayo at 31/20
Rayo Vallecano slumped to their 15th defeat of the season as they lost 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao last weekend. Paco Jemez’s side have won just once in their last nine games, with five draws and three defeats. They have fared much better at home with their 5-1 defeat against Barcelona last month their only loss from their previous seven matches. Vallecano claimed a 2-0 win over Getafe in their last home game and Jemez will hope they can replicate that result. Villarreal are unbeaten in five matches in all competitions with three wins on the spin. They boast an excellent head-to-head record over their opponents having won seven of their last eight meetings and we think that they’ll extend that to eight out of nine this weekend.
Dortmund v Hamburg: Over 3.5 goals to be scored at 11/10
Dortmund couldn’t provide the finishing touches to secure a derby win against Schalke and find themselves seven points behind Bayern Munich. Their dreams of stopping Munich marching to a fourth consecutive title are slowly slipping away. They’re clearly the second-best side in the country by a comfortable margin but will likely be made to wait another season before attempting to dethrone Bayern. Hamburg will be disappointed with their loss to Darmstadt last weekend and cannot be complacent in a congested relegation battle.
