Race 5.

The day’s best bet, FIVE CROWNS won by just under a half length when making his debut over 1208M and could be just about anything. He was bumped at the start, but recovered well to eventually hit the front at the 200M mark and then hold off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He would have learnt from that experience and should have natural improvement to come. He will have to negotiate draw eight, but he could prove good enough too secure a quick double here.

BAK DA MAN has posted two solid last runs, the latest when fourth over 2200M, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner. He returns from a 20 week break and has his fist run for his new trainer, but he has had the one barrier trial where he finished third to prove his fitness. The gelding drops in distance, but has a handy draw three and could be the biggest threat to the top choice.

OUR COUSIN AL stayed on well when showing good improvement to end up in third place last time out over 1300M, just over two lengths back from the winner. He is drawn one inside the latter and will have cheek pieces fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6.

MY SNOW QUEEN is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she is lightly raced, having recorded one first and one second place finish in her five starts to date. She jumped awkwardly before recovering well to take up the lead before eventually finishing fifth last time out over 1500M, 5.7L adrift of the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She returns from an 18 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing third in both of them. She jumps from a wide gate eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

ZAKOR made good late progress when ending up in eighth spot in his latest outing over 1100M, 4.3L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. From his kinder draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

IMPACT STAR had consistent form before being a bit disappointing when finishing sixth in his last outing over seven furlongs, five and a half lengths behind the winner and was immediately rested for 20 weeks. He did however over race in the middle stages of that contest, which would not have helped his cause. He returns here after finishing second in his only barrier trial and from gate nine, he should be included in all bets.

Race 7.

BIRDONAWINNINGPOST has cracked pole position and stayed on well when fifth in his latest start over twelve furlongs, 5.7L behind the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home stretch that day and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. With better luck in running here, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

UNWAVERING FAITH is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over a mile with a running on fifth place finish over 1850M, just under four lengths adrift of the victor and the form of that race has been franked. On that last effort, she should enjoy going over the extra distance and give the boys a good run for their money.

MARAKOPA shifted out in the home straight when finishing third in his last outing over nine furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner. He has pulled a wide draw ten, but the blinkers go back on and if this move has the desired effect, he should give a good account of himself today.

Race 8.

STANDING BEAR has finished closer to the winner in each of his last four runs, culminating with a short-head victory last time out over 1250M, notwithstanding hanging out from the 600M mark and coming four wide approaching the home turn. He jumps from a cozy gate two and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.

Two 5yr old mares could chase him home, with the slight preference going to CECILIA who had her consistency rewarded with a neck win last time out over six furlongs, despite jumping awkwardly and being bumped shortly after the start. She faces draw ten, but nevertheless she should still be right up there in the mix.

CHARMMEBABY was hampered entering the home straight before ending up in fifth place last time out over 1250M, two and a half lengths behind the winner. She has a far kinder gate four and has her peak run after returning from a 21 week break.
