Race 5

BRONZE DRAGON finished third on debut over six furlongs, just under a half-length behind the winner, despite shifting out over the latter stages. He has a handy draw four and would have learnt from that experience. With the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

TUSCAN GAZE disappointed when stepping up to ten furlongs last time out, finishing up 15.6L adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 19 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the latest. He is drawn one outside the top choice and should do better going over what appears to be a more suitable distance.

IDLING BY is a 4yr filly taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing second in her latest outing over seven furlongs, one length back from the victor. She was making good late progress that day and from gate three, she has her peak run after returning from a 20-week break and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, DEMURRAL to chalk up his fourth career victory. He has consistent formlines to his name, finishing fourth in his latest outing over six furlongs, just one length behind the winner when returning from a 21-week break. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should be hard to oppose, jumping from a cosy draw four.

REDSTONE also has solid form to his credit, finishing fifth last time out over 1300M, one and a half lengths off the victor. He was returning from a shorter 10-week rest that day and from a slightly wider gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

BOHEMIAN BOOM followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with an eighth-place finish next time out over the same trip, 6.3L behind the winner. He has cracked pole position and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claim apprentice to aid his cause.

Race 7

PLATINUM EUROS goes for his hat-trick after two victories over five furlongs, both by the same three-length margin. He kicked clear at the 200M mark in that last win and the contest was over from that point. He faces a wide draw thirteen out of fifteen, but nevertheless, he should be right up there in the firing line. He does have his first run since a 29-week absence, but he has had the benefit of three barrier trials, finishing third in the latest.

MODELKA is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she also has her hat-trick run after winning over 1100M and the latest over six furlongs by two and a half lengths. She went from jump to wire that day, with her jockey easing her down over the latter stages. She has a wideish draw ten but gets the services of ex-SA jockey Robbie Fradd, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

LUSKIN HERO has won two of his last three starts, the latest over six furlongs by a head and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He returns from a shorter 10-week rest but has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. He jumps from a kinder draw three and should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, JOY’S REWARD is a 6yr old mare taking on boys, but she won her penultimate run over seven furlongs and then finished third in her next outing over a mile, a head back from the winner. She stayed on well that day and from her gate six, she should give the males a good run for their money.

TRAVOLI has finished third in his last two starts, the latest over seven furlongs by a neck. He was friendless in the betting markets that day and is drawn wide in gate seventeen, but if able to repeat that last effort, he should not be lightly dismissed.

IPSO NEM FELEK also won his penultimate start, but in his case over nine furlongs and then ended up in eighth spot next time our over the same c&d, just under four lengths adrift of the winner. He will have to overcome a wide draw eleven, but on the plus side, he will get 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
