Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to MA AND PA who has cracked pole position and has his hat-trick run after wins over 1300M and the latest over today’s trip by half a length. He went from jump to wire that day and the form of that race has been franked. In addition, he has his peak outing after returning from a 25-week rest.

AGRIMONY is drawn one outside the top choice and has his first run in Australia and a 17-week break, but he has joined the powerful Chris Waller stable and did win over this mile journey three runs back in Ireland. He has not had a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but any betting support for him should be respected.

SO UNITED followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a third-place finish next time out when stepping up to a mile, one and a half lengths behind the winner. He made good late progress that day and from his wideish gate seven, he should be doing his best work over the latter stages.

Race 6

SUAVE came five wide into the home straight before going on to finish seventh last time out over seven furlongs but was just under two lengths behind the winner and the gelding lost an off-fore shoe in running. He was returning from a year’s absence that day and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them. From his pole position, he could chalk up his fourth career victory today.

SOAMI tried to go from gun to tape before finishing fifth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, 1.3L back from the winner. He was only run out of it very late and from a cosy draw four, he could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages. AEECEE EXPRESS has only had the four runs to date, but missed out on his hat-trick when finishing a disappointing twelfth in his last start over 1500M, nearly twelve lengths adrift of the victor, but he was reported to have made an abnormal respiratory noise that day, so that effort is best ignored. He has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and although draw wideish in gate eight, he should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, VARDA is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she won her penultimate start over 1110M and then finished seventh last time out over six furlongs, ten and a half lengths off the winner, but it must be noted that she was very fractious in the starting stalls that day and had to be vetted.

Although passed fit to race, clearly the incident had upset her and that run should be dismissed. She gets a handy draw three and although returning from a 17-week rest, she has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. She should give the males a good run for their money MARWAY shifted out sharply at the jump but recovered well to shoot to the head of affairs and then battled all the way down to the wire to end up in fifth place last time out over 1100M, three lengths behind the winner when returning from a 16-week break. He is drawn one outside the top pick and could prove to be the biggest threat to the former.

ENCHANTED HEART is another 5yr old mare in the race. She had to be held up entering the home stretch and then battled to find a run the whole way down the straight before finishing eighth over 1300M, 5.3L back from the winner. She jumps from gate two and should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

ZOUSHACK raced up with the speed when finishing second in his latest outing over six furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. He was returning from a 24-week break that day and although drawn wide in gate fourteen, he should use that early gate speed to shift across without expending too much energy. As such, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

NEWSREADER on the other hand has drawn gate two, but overraced in the early and middle stages and was then found to be lame in her off foreleg when ending up in the twelfth spot last time out over 1100M, 7.2L behind the winner, and that run is best ignored. She is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she returns from a 20 week and has had four barrier trials to prove her fitness. She will also get 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.

PATROLLING is a speedy sort who stayed on well when finishing second last time out over 1250M, just under a length behind the winner. He faces a wide draw twelve but should use his early toe to move across without consuming too much gas.
