Race 4.
AT WAR has consistent formlines to his name and looked a possible winner when just beaten by a neck last time out over seven furlongs. The form of that race has stood up well. He returns from a 15 week rest, but did finish second in his only barrier trial to prove well-being. From his mid-field draw six and with having 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card. YANKEE LIMA has his first run since a longer 24 week break, but he did win his only barrier trial to showcase his fitness. Although being recorded as finishing sixth last time out over seven furlongs, he was just over a length and a half behind the winner. He raced up with the leaders that day and should use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. There are two unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Of the pair, RAIN GOD may prove to be the best, this despite being drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven. He has had the two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and then winning the latest.
Race 5.
SAVAGE ONE missed out on his hat-trick when finishing seventh last time out over this c&d. He is a speedy sort who was only run out of it late and is sure to put his handy gate two to good use. BOSNIPP is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, illustrated by the fact that she has finished second in her last two runs, the latest when beaten a short-head over this c&d. She showed plenty of toe that day and three runners from that race have subsequently won, so that form is solid. She gets gate five and should be right up there when they hit the line. TREVELLO was a tad disappointing when ending up in ninth place in his latest outing over seven furlongs, but drops back to the five-furlong sprint today and may do better as a result. He has the widest draw of them all in gate eight, but the blinkers get re-fitted today and if this move proves to have the desired effect, he should be included in all bets.
Race 6.
Today’s best bet, TOMMY BLUE is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she has shown steady improvement in her last three runs, finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs, just over half a length adrift of the victor. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only collared in the shadow of the post. The blinkers are removed for the first time here and she is sure to appreciate the slight drop in distance. She faces gate seven, but she should still give the boys a good run for their money. GREAT CHARADE has cracked pole position and had his consistency rewarded with a head win last time out over seven furlongs. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and seems likely to turn in another honest performance once again. RUM RAKER did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in sixth place in his latest outing over seven furlongs, finishing 2.3L back from the winner, but the form of that race has been franked. He will have to overcome gate eleven, but on that last effort, he should be closing down the frontrunners over the latter stages of the contest.
Race 7.
BLACKWATER BAY followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile at this track with a third place finish next time out over the same c&d, just over a half-length behind the winner. He returns from a 21-week absence but did win his only barrier trial to enhance his chances in this line-up. He has pulled a wide gate ten, but nevertheless, he looks to be the one to side with here. PROMISSION on the other hand has pole position and finished third in her last start over 1100M, just under a length and a half behind the winner. She is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she was making good late progress that day, despite having to switch in to obtain a clear run. On that effort, she should appreciate the extra ground on offer today. SPEEDBIRD is a 3yr old filly who came four-wide into the straight before ending up in third spot last time out over seven furlongs, 3.3L adrift of the winner. She is drawn in gate six and did win over this trip three runs back, so should not be lightly dismissed.
