Trainer Comments:
KZN trainer Paul Lafferty has the four-year old gelding DARK MOON RISING in the contest and the surprisingly automatic qualifier has a low mass and good draw. His conditioner is quite upbeat about the Ideal World gelding’s chances and he had this to say, “I was very happy with his gallop. He galloped with a decent horse (Gat Henshaw) and he quickened up nicely. The pace in the race is a worry but I can see ‘Striker’ on Abashiri or Fiorella going up front to set the pace and other runners holding their positions. I rate Do It Again with Anton Marcus as a big threat other than African Night Sky.”
Comment after the barrier draws… where he drew well in three, Lafferty said, “I am only concerned about there being no pace. I think he is the horse to beat. If you look at the two favourites, African Night Sky and Do It Again, they have both flopped when running in Grade 1s.”

Winning Form – Magic Tips Comment:
The second and final KZN hopeful who has also been somewhat fortunate to be among the automatic qualifiers. He is however in the form of his life and he loves racing on this course. He was flattered by the margin of defeat of MATADOR MAN (3.5kgs better off) in the Greyville 1900 as he shifted onto the latter at a crucial stage but in his defense, he ran on smartly for 2nd behind ELUSIVE SILVA (0.5kg better off) that day. The four-year old is 1.5kgs under sufferance but he represents a top stallion and he will enjoy the extra ground. Tough task.
Verdict: Improving KZN hopeful, solid last performance, slightly under-sufferance but can place.
