Winning Form

TOP BET
Race 1: ALIBI GUY(1) – 6/10
Jockey: Anton Marcus
Trainer: Mike de Kock

ALIBI GUY is unbeaten in two starts to date, both over the mile. He finished strongly in both those runs, which would suggest that the step up in distance will be to his liking. From a good draw and with Anton Marcus in the irons, he should get favourite punters off to a good start.

Predicted Finish: 1-3-5-6-10

Race 2:  JACK OF HEARTS (10) – 10/1
Jockey: Jason Gates
Trainer: Garth Puller

JACK OF HEARTS will get 1.5kgs taken off his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice. He is the only runner on the day from the Garth Puller yard and is the sole ride for Jason Gates. He raced wide in his last start and also received a bump in the closing stages, which makes the win that much more impressive

Predicted Finish: 10-2-8-7-6

BEST BET – 1
Race 3: MONTREAL MIST(6) – 11/2
Jockey: Gavin Lerena
Trainer: Sean Tarry

MONTREAL MIST showed plenty of toe before holding off all challengers to win her last start over this c&d. She jumps from a good draw and seems to have struck up a good partnership with Gavin Lerena, who retains the ride today.

Predicted Finish: 6-14-10-2-8

VALUE BET
Umkhomazi Stakes (Gr2)
Race 4: ALRAMZ(3) (Each Way) – 13/2

Jockey: Anton Marcus
Trainer: Mike de Kock

ALRAMZ represents the powerful Mike De Kock yard and is re-united with Anton Marcus. He won over this trip on debut and has not been disgraced in his next three outings. He was only caught in the shadow of the post in his last start over seven furlongs and is sure to be right up there in the run down to the wire.

Predicted Finish: 3-8-2-14-5

Thekwini Stakes (Gr1)
Race  5: GABOR (4) – 14/10
Jockey: Warren Kennedy
Trainer: Gavin van Zyl

The draws may well influence the outcome of this race and provide a reversal of form. GABOR has drawn stall gate two, whereas COCKNEY PRIDE will have to start from gate 14. The former did finish 2.2L behind the latter over seven furlongs on Vodacom Durban July day and they do meet on the same weight terms, but being stuck out wide over the mile might make all the difference today.

Predicted Finish: 4-3-14-2-12

Premier’s Champion Stakes (Gr1)

Race 6: EDEN ROC(2) – 7/10
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Trainer: Sean Tarry

EDEN ROCK has been impressive in remaining unbeaten in his three starts to date. He jumps from a good draw and with current SA champion jockey Lyle Hewitson retaining the ride, he will be hoping to add to his total of winners in his quest to retain his title.

Predicted Finish: 2-5-11-14-8

eLan Gold Cup (Gr3)
Race 7: STRATHDON (6) – 5/1
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: Justin Snaith

STRATHDON likes to race handy which is often how this marathon race has been won in the past. He will be hoping to give the trainer/jockey combination of Justin Snaith and Richard Fourie a Vodacom Durban July/eLan Gold Cup double.

ROY HAD ENOUGH finished well in the July after being stuck out wide during the race. He gets Piere Strydom in the saddle, who is a master of judging pace.

DOUBLEMINT is the stable companion of the top selection. He lacked a strong finish in the July where he was also trapped wide. He won the Winter Derby down in CT a year ago and may enjoy the step up in distance.

SHENANIGANS produced a strong finish to win his last start over eleven furlongs and should be able to see out this trip.

GIMME ONE NIGHT was running on nicely when just failing to overhaul the latter in their last clash and he should give a good account of himself here.

Predicted Finish: 6-1-5-9-11

Mercury Sprint (Gr1)
Race 8: KASMIR (1) – 18/10
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: Justin Snaith

KASIMIR has his second run after a rest and brings solid formline into the race. He was running on in his last start on the poly, which was his first run in KZN.

Predicted Finish: 1-13-6-2-10

BEST BET – 3
WSB Champions Cup (Gr1)
Race 9: RAINBOW BRIDGE(1) – 18/10

Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: Eric Sands

RAINBOW BRIDGE was only just denied a win in the country’s premier race last time out and will be looking to go one better here. He jumps from a mid-field draw and ironically will be partnered by the Vodacom Durban July winning jockey, Richard Fourie.

Predicted Finish: 1-3-6-2-8

Kuda Gold Bracelet (Gr2)
Race 10: CAMPHORATUS (1) – 9/2

Jockey: Gareth Wright
Trainer: Robbie Hill

CAMPHORATUS finished well in the July, but was reported to be distressed after the race. The drop in trip will be to her liking. LADY IN BLACK gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time today and if these have the desired effect, she should give a good account of herself. She did finish 2.45L off the former in the July, but she is 4.5kgs better off at the weights, so there should not be much between the pair at the wire.

Predicted Finish: 1-5-3-2-4

Race 11: SILVA’S BULLET (8) – 9/2
Jockey: Keagan De Melo
Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer

SILVA’S BULLET drops in trip from his last two outings, but won his only start over the c&d. From a good draw, he looks to be the one to side with here.

Predicted Finish: 8-7-3-9-2

Race 12: DALAI’S PROMISE (7) – 22/10
Jockey: Muzi Yeni
Trainer: Andrew Fortune

DALAI’S PROMISE makes the trip down from Gauteng in an attempt to ring up a quartet of wins. She takes on the boys, but all five of her wins to date have been achieved over this minimum distance. If taking to the surface and from a handy draw, the fourth win in a row looks very much on the cards.

Predicted Finish: 7-11-4-5-1
