Trainer Comments:
Jonathan Snaith: “Elusive Silva (Jono Snaith is a part-owner) was at one stage ante-post favourite for last year’s race but he got injured. He has had a fantastic prep and is a bit of a fairytale horse in that he was retired from racing with a tendon injury yet here he is back for the same race and with a realistic chance. He is a good horse and he has the class to win.”

“ELUSIVE SILVA didn’t do much after sustaining an injury in the gallops last year. Most importantly he came through the workout completely sound. He is back to his very best and will run to his best form.”

Jockey Comments:
Bernard Fayd’Herbe got into the action late in terms of giving us his comments but when he eventually remarked he had the following to say, “I didn’t gallop him in the public gallops but I sat on him in his final workout and he is flying. I don’t see too much pace in the race, but he has a cracking chance at running a place based on his work.”

Winning Form – Magic Tips Comment:
Another inmate from the Snaith yard that has enjoyed a solid preparation. He may have clung on for a somewhat fortuitous last triumph in the Greyville 1900 but the injury plagued gelding showed an impressive burst of speed and he will be cherry-ripe today. Of course he holds a smart track record and was strongly fancied for the event last year before being withdrawn due to a setback. His top class defending champion jockey will give him a great ride and he must be considered despite his wide barrier position.

Verdict: Tough customer, game last win over 17 (Dark Moon Rising), is capable but also prefers a pace.

Hollywoodbets Comments:
Bernard Fayd’Herbe has ridden two Vodacom Durban July winners, the most recent coming in last year’s race on board Marinaresco. His first win came on board Pocket Power (who dead heated with Dancer’s Daughter in 2008).
